Job SummaryReporting to the Director, Financial Reporting Risk and Controls, the position will assist in implementing the internal controls over financial reporting program for HOOPP.

This involves identifying, evaluating, documenting, implementing and monitoring of testing of internal controls. On an ongoing basis, the position will assist with the monitoring of the testing and remediation of internal controls and various reporting activities.

The role also requires more involvement with the teams to provide consultation in identifying control gaps and improvements.

Where required, the role will be involved in projects to provide expertise on the implementation of controls.Roles and ResponsibilitiesAssist the Director in leading the interview process across the organization to gain an understanding of the activities in scope for ICFR in order to document processes and internal controls.

Assist in identifying internal control and policy compliance issues, including the creation and / or compilation of appropriate documentation.

  • Create controls documentation (narratives, flow charts, risk and control inventories). Monitor changes to various processes;
  • assist the Businesses in ensuring that documentation is kept up-to-date and assist in the validation of changes in processes and controls.

    Recommend internal control enhancement and process improvement opportunities and assist in the design and implementation of new internal controls, where required.

    Assist in creating and managing remediation plans that result due to design and / or operating deficiencies.Develop effective communication channels with internal stakeholders.

    Assist in the management of the testing process by creating test scripts, reviewing completed working papers and providing guidance on the testing methodology, as required.

    Oversee and review the work performed by the ICFR testers; and provide the necessary guidance to the testers when required.

    Assist in the management of the ICFR work plan, including monitoring the status of the testing work performed, remediation plans, liaising with the testing team and the various departments being tested.

    Analyze, monitor and report on the effectiveness of internal controls on a routine basis.Assist in the quarterly ICFR attestation process for completeness and review the attestations for process changes and management identified deficiencies.

    Assess implications of changes and deficiencies and make recommendations to the Director.Assist in the review and analysis of the Service Organization Control (SOC1) reports.

    Participate in Finance and firm wide projects, as required, and provide expertise on internal controls standards.QualificationsUniversity degree (Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration)Chartered AccountantAt least 5 years of progressive experience in auditing, financial control, complex investments, capital marketsSkills and Knowledge : Knowledge of SOX, NI 52-109 and governance and control frameworks (COSO)A strong understanding of information system risks and IT general controlsStrong working knowledge of various investment types, including fixed income, equities and various interest rate, FX, equity and credit derivatives.

  • Experience with processes and systems carried out by front office, back office, middle office and financial and management reporting functions;
  • would be beneficial.Ability to identify, understand, document, evaluate and monitor internal controls.Ability to critically assess the effectiveness of internal controls, make recommendations to improve internal controls and remediate internal control deficiencies through effective implementation of new internal controls.

    Familiarity with market risk and compliance activities.Ability to partner with both internal and external stakeholders, such as the various business areas, external auditors, consultants, etc.

    Ability to participate in change efforts.Ability to effectively provide guidance and transfer knowledge to others, even those who do not have a direct reporting line.

    Strong attention to detail.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Strong analytical, problem solving and reasoning skills.

    A proven team player, who possesses initiative, can work independently and with minimal supervision.Ability to plan, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Schedule : Full-time
