About the Position :

Deliver outcome-oriented settlement program to IRCC eligible newcomers (permanent residents, live-in caregivers and refugees).

SUCCESS Settlement Practitioner provides settlement services for seniors, women, men and youth under these components : a) Needs Assessments and Referrals, b) Information and Orientation, c) Employment Related Services, d) Community Connections and e) Support Services.

Reports to : Settlement Coordinator

Key Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Performs formal review of newcomer needs across a broad spectrum of settlement areas (language, employment, housing, community connections, etc.)
  • Provides labour-market information, orientation through workshops & longer term programs
  • Develop Settlement Plan and follow-up support for newcomers based on identified needs and government / professional / business / community services available
  • Performs clients’ data entry using IRCC provided system
  • Refers or arranges clients to appropriate services as needed e.g. crisis counselling
  • Provides newcomers with client-centered settlement and integration information and orientation services about Canada and the community they intend to settle
  • Delivers one-on-one consultation in-person, via email, Online and by phone
  • Provide information and orientation through workshops, group sessions and classes
  • Liaises with government / professional / business / schools / community services as necessary to ensure the provision of accurate and detailed information to newcomers and client settlement needs are met
  • Facilitates bridging activities such as mentoring between newcomers and Canadian citizens, employers, businesses, professionals and public institutions
  • Facilitates guided visits for newcomers to foster familiarization to existing government and community resources and support
  • Plans and implements large and small events
  • Performs cultural interpretation between clients and service providers
  • Occasionally, performs interpretation for workshop speakers
  • Occasionally, translates resources for newcomers
  • Outreach to newcomers through participating community events
  • Attends program meetings on service delivery issues
  • Supplies up-to-date information to Regional Manager or Settlement Coordinator in Richmond region regarding changes to community services, government departments and procedures
  • Works on improving program service outcomes and day-to-day services to newcomers by participating in professional development as assigned
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Regional Manager or Settlement Coordinator in Richmond Region
  • Qualifications and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social or Human Sciences
  • Career Development Practitioner Certificate is an asset
  • Experienced in working with immigrants, live-in caregivers and refugees
  • Demonstrated knowledge about settlement information and resources
  • Knowledgeable of the geographic area served
  • Experienced in conducting workshops and events
  • Experienced in one-on-one settlement service delivery
  • Excellent time and resource management skills
  • Demonstrated skills in interpersonal and intercultural communication techniques
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the IRCC components
  • Job Skills and Abilities :

  • Fluent spoken and written English; second language in Mandarin, Cantonese or Tagalog is an asset.
  • Strong communication (written / verbal) and group facilitation skills
  • Excellent people skills
  • Able to work independently and as a team
  • Strong computer skills (including internet proficiency)
  • Demonstrated active listening skills
  • Ability to work with individuals and communities facing cultural adjustment challenges
  • Ability to create, and maintain client records and reports
  • Able to design, promote, deliver and facilitate orientation and education workshops
  • Other Requirements :

  • Able to travel among regions in lower mainland
  • Able to work at different services locations, when necessary
  • Able to work evenings and weekends
  • Clear criminal record check required
