Reporting to the IT Director of DevOps, the IT manager, people development will play an integral part in managing the performance and development of IT professionals across a variety of different teams within DevOps.

You'll leverage both your strong technical background, and extensive experience in mentoring and coaching large, highly-functioning IT teams to support individual growth paths throughout their career.

You'll also use your strong people and communication skills to facilitate performance reviews, provide just-in-time feedback for continuous improvement and development of our DevOps teams to deliver exceptional products that support our internal and external stakeholders.

As a IT manager, people development you will :

  • Work closely with team members in various software development roles while coaching and mentoring them to create performance and career development plans by identifying technical and soft skills required to excel in their current jobs and achieve professional goals
  • Work closely with Human Resources to participate in the recruitment and selection, onboarding and talent management for DevOps teams
  • Facilitate one-on-one and performance reviews on multiple DevOps teams for individuals in various roles such as software developers, business engineers, scrum masters, quality assurance analysts, release leads, release train engineers, site reliability engineers, agile coaches and administrative roles
  • Communicate with directors and leaders to align business needs with people development to support WorkSafeBC's IT vision and mandate
  • We're looking for someone who can :

  • Communicate with individuals from a variety of technical and non-technical backgrounds to facilitate and influence discussions based on performance reviews and career plans
  • Work collaboratively to build group commitment towards common goals through encouraging, planning, prioritizing, and conceptualizing issues and solutions
  • Be creative in preparing and presenting complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing to a wide audience
  • Leverage your solid understanding of software development practices and methodologies to provide constructive feedback on performance
  • Adapt to changes and model positive behaviours even when faced with difficult circumstances
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with individuals, teams, and diverse groups in an objective and diplomatic manner
  • Create innovative learning opportunities to foster a motivating and engaging team culture
  • Be an expert resource for creating autonomous teams
  • Lead your team on a path to success, paying attention to details in order to acknowledge and recognize positive behaviours of team members
  • Empathize with and understand individuals to support them to overcome challenges through mentorship and guidance
  • Manage and leverage different conflicts creatively to create a safe team environment and seize opportunities to learn and continually improve
  • Be a self-starter, see challenges as opportunities, and willing to take ownership to make a difference
  • Your experience and educational background :

  • A bachelor's degree
  • 15 years of experience as a team manager, coach and / or mentor, inclusive of :
  • Seven years of experience working in the IT industry
  • Five years directly responsible for operational delivery of projects, managing and developing staff, leading systemic coaching efforts in support of teams' function and performance
  • Two years working within an Agile / DevOps environment
  • Extensive experience in human resources functions such as recruitment and selection, onboarding, employee performance, coaching and talent management
  • Extensive experience in creating learning environments within mid to large-size organizations to foster continuous improvement and collaboration
  • Experience in defining roles and responsibilities and developing career paths for various roles in software development
  • Scrum master, product owner or SAFe certification is an asset
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
