Queen Margaret's School is accepting applications for an Intern Teacher to join our Junior School faculty beginning August 22, 2022.

Intern Teachers work in the area of Academics to support the day-to-day school operations by acting as a Teacher-On-Call.

They support the Academic Department with ongoing projects, supervision of exams, and other duties as required. Intern Teachers take on special projects as assigned, and the School makes every attempt to tailor project work to the Intern Teacher's areas of interest.

This posting will close when a suitable candidate is chosen.

The role includes working at co-curricular and special events as assigned, including some weekends and evenings. Housing and meals may be provided as a taxable benefit, in addition to a salary for the academic year (September to June).

This position is suited to individuals who have recently completed a degree in education. This is an excellent opportunity for newly certified teachers to gain valuable experience and mentorship in their teaching practice.

Candidates must have completed their Bachelor of Education degree and be members of (or eligible for membership) with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.

Faculty, including Intern Teachers, are expected to support the school's extensive co-curricular program.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Academic program with ongoing projects as assigned. This could include coordinating the school’s annual yearbooks, invigilating exams, and organizing of special events, such as assemblies, end-of-year ceremonies
  • Serve as a Teacher-On-Call (TOC) for the academic year
  • Create a safe and nurturing classroom environment
  • Be student-focused and possess a keen interest in promoting student progress
  • Foster a climate of respect and fairness for all students
  • Communicate effectively with homeroom teachers, faculty advisors, and learning support staff as required
  • Assist with the administration of Academic events
  • Attend Outdoor Education trips as assigned
  • Bring energy, enthusiasm and a love for learning to the classroom
  • Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively alongside teacher colleagues
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and a desire to put students first
  • Attend meetings and school events as required
  • Lead co-curricular assignments with enthusiasm
  • Model the core values of the school
  • Be a role model for students
  • Collaborate with teacher colleagues to support a student-centered learning environment
  • Take an active part in all professional development activities, including staff meetings
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned
  • Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized B.Ed program
  • Proof of BC Ministry of Education Teacher Certification (or proof of qualification in process)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate and develop relationships with a wide array of stakeholders (students, parents, teacher colleagues, community members, etc.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and professional learning
  • Ability to motivate students through meaningful curriculum and inquiry-driven learning
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong learning relationships through the provision of a safe and trusting learning environment
  • Experience using project-based learning approaches and commitment to regularly engage in experiential learning opportunities with students
  • Familiarity with relevant assessment strategies to provide continual feedback
  • Ability to effectively differentiate and be responsive to student needs
  • Experience, sensitivity and awareness of working within a multicultural environment
  • Willingness to embrace the ethos of an independent school and make a commitment to the extensive co-curricular life of an independent school
  • Preference will be given to candidates who also have the following skills and qualifications :

  • An interest / experience in working in a residential environment
  • Standard First Aid or above
  • Valid driver's license and clean driver abstract
