You will tame legacy issues and be instrumental in creating a smooth transition to a modern services oriented architecture that provides a first class experience for today's travellers.

Busbud is heavily invested in NodeJS and we use it in the vast majority of our current projects. As a company, we want to use the best technologies available when solving our problems and you can help us continue doing so.

In joining the Busbud Engineering team, you would be bringing your wealth of experience in Go and the ideas and patterns it champions to new projects where it will have a big impact.

Busbud is the largest online travel agency specializing in intercity bus and coach travel with the widest global coverage.

Travelling is our passion, and we work hard to offer the most comprehensive network of city-to-city travels. We are live in 80 countries, 21,000 cities and offer more than 2.

3 million bus routes. Our goal is to provide a more environmentally friendly, accessible and interconnected world for everyone.

What you can expect from this opportunity :

  • Improve operational excellence for Busbud so we can detect, diagnose, prioritize and address issues systematically.
  • Ensure our services and applications are fast, fault-tolerant and scalable
  • Identify areas of high complexity in our codebases and ship solutions through simplified services
  • Become an expert in numerous codebases & services within your squad
  • Collaborate with your product & engineering peers to design, build and ship solutions that have a positive impact on your squads goals
  • Anticipate technical issues at the product level, and make architectural and design decisions in order to prevent them.
  • Exemplify software development excellence by balancing scope and deadlines to deliver on quality and speed with appropriate test coverage, monitoring and rollout plans.
  • Multiply the effectiveness of peers by facilitating cross-squad work.
  • Why join the Busbud Engineering Team?

This position is for you if you want to have a great impact on the engineering team as a whole. While you will join one of our squads, your background and experience with Elixir will help guide and influence how services are created and deployed.

We're big fans of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) using infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) while watching our services run beautifully (DataDog) in the clouds (Google Cloud Platform & AWS).

Our team is small, but we have big ambitions. We love getting stuff done, and we thrive on tackling hard problems, breaking them down into simple solutions and shipping them quickly.

We believe every idea has the potential to be a great idea and we embrace experimentation to test our theories and learn from them.

Your voice will be heard in your squad, your ideas will be discussed and you will be treated as an equal.

    How can you impress us?

  • You are willing to tackle any hurdle to get the job done rather than wait on someone else to do the work for you.
  • You have multiple years of experience developing, testing, releasing and supporting code that you've written. With your experience you often can identify the potential for a problem before it happens and can help shape decisions to prevent issues before they get to production.
  • You have had your fair share of technical successes and failures in the past and leverage your past experiences in your decisions.
  • You are sought out for technical guidance. People respect and trust your opinions.
  • You absolutely love what you do, you are detail oriented and you are always keen to invest in your future by learning new things.
  • You're comfortable with (or can quickly ramp up on) with these technologies : Docker, Elixir, Kubernetes, NodeJS, Postgres, React, Redis, Terraform and TypeScript
  • The nitty-gritty, aka “what's in it for me?â€

  • A great salary that's based off your your experience and what you've accomplished
  • Healthcare Benefits (health, drugs, vision, dental) so you can stay happy and healthy
  • Stock options because we want everyone at Busbud to think like an owner (because they are)
  • Let's be real, travelling is fun and we know dogfooding our product will make it even better, so we will give you free bus tickets to have fun and make Busbud even better
  • A good work-life balance and lots of vacation. While we all love working at Busbud we recognize it's important to have time to unwind so we offer 4 weeks of vacation (3 weeks of paid vacations + 1 week during the Holidays).
  • Breakfast, snacks, team lunches on Wednesdays, happy hour on Fridays
  • Great hardware that you will love to work with, 34†ultra-wide monitors paired up with a laptop you actually want to use.
  • Most software engineers use Macbook Pros but if you prefer linux, we've got you covered.

  • Making a difference by building software that has social and environmental impact globally every single day
  • Working with an inclusive, diverse team that is always striving for better through our diversity projects
  • Working with a balanced range of passionate software engineers
  • We like to have fun in the office and we really like to have fun together outside the office
  • Visas and work permits
