Overview :
The Apprentice Fleet Technician performs preventative maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles in a timely and cost-efficient manner under supervision.
Receives work duties and responsibilities from Lead Mechanic or management personnel.
Responsibilities / Essential Functions :
Maintain fleet vehicles with focus on Preventative Maintenance programs to meet 100% compliance of standards;
Utilize fleet management programs to document all shop operations;
Assist with cost control through inventory management and reviewing estimates / invoices from external vendors;
Responsible for maintenance of shop quality requirements, cleanliness, and Occupational Health and Safety standards.
Inspect vehicles to ensure compliance with company standards and local regulations;
Conduct vehicle maintenance on company vehicles as experience permits;
Conduct all repairs in a safe and efficient manner;
Assist in more extensive repairs where needed, based on experience;
Follow all Company workplace conduct requirements and policies;
Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of role to support the business.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
Familiarity with National Safety Code (NSC) regulations, vehicle maintenance and applicable laws to meet required standards;
Familiarity with preventive maintenance control systems, parts procurement and inventory controls;
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast pace environment;
Support a collaborative and team-oriented environment in the shop;
Ability to have schedule flexibility to include day, evenings, and / or weekends.
Working Environment / Safety Requirements :
Generally, work will be performed in a dedicated shop bay however road calls and work in a vehicle yard may be required;
Occasional exposure to inclement weather may be required;
Occasional exposure to Hot Work zones during welding.
Experience :
Previous experience in a maintenance shop preferred.
Travel Requirements :
Some travel may be required to support Depot Locations.
Education :
High School or equivalent required
Enrolled in an apprenticeship program or post-secondary school certification program
License Requirements / Certifications :
Valid Driver's License
310S working towards 310T
Tools :
Must provide own tools appropriate for qualifications and level of experience;
Shop tools will be provided
