Role Details

Business, Location : Andor, Toronto

Direct Reports : None

Primary Purpose : Design and test of microscopy products.

Generic Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be working in an agile engineering development team extending and enhancing Andor’s innovative light measurement solutions product portfolio.

The role extends to optical instrument optimisation, product requirements management, image processing algorithm development, quality testing strategy & development and support for customer queries and production support.

  • Specific Responsibilities

  • Design and test of optical microscopy instruments.
  • Participate in product definition, system architecture, development and verification / validation.
  • Provide innovative, robust and scalable solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Deliver continuous improvement in new product developments.
  • Gather requirements based on system specifications for new products.
  • Drive task breakdown, estimation and creation of product test plans.
  • Play a key role in further development of instrument performance test suites and efficient transfer to manufacturing.
  • Mentor, train and support other members of the development team.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external customers.
  • Build good working relationships with other key departments and customers.
  • Input to user guides, manuals and any other documentation.
  • Take responsibility for own development and actively self-learn.
  • Occasional travel to other offices and customer sites.
  • Any other duties as may be required from time to time by your line manager.

    Person Specification

    Essential Criteria Desirable Criteria Education / Qualifications 2.1 (or higher) BSc or MSc qualification in a physical science, engineering discipline or equivalent qualification Higher degree in Physics, ideally a practical based MSc or Ph.

    D Professional Skills / Abilities

    Evidence of high initiative and the ability to learn quickly

    At least 2 years’ experience in an R&D / product development environment (Practical based Ph.D acceptable)

    Familiarity with optical microscope operation and biological imaging.

    Experience gained within a development environment for design, test & production of instrumentation, optics or optical systems. Examples could be :
