Role Summary

Wealth Management is a strategic priority for Meridian and the role of Investment Coach is a key specialist role that supports the achievement of set strategic objectives in this area.

In this role, the Investment Coach works with sales managers to provide sales effectiveness coaching to licensed sales representatives that will improve the capability and performance.

Although coaching remains as one of the core responsibilities of sales managers, the Investment Coach supplements the capacity and capabilities of sales managers to assist in developing tactics that are able to provide for an outstanding client experience to our Members.

Investment Coaches will also support the on boarding and development of new licensed sales representatives. Coaches work closely with sales managers and the coaching of sales representatives to primarily focus on financial planning, client engagement skills and sales activities and process including utilization of key client engagement and sales tools.

In certain markets, when needed, the Investment Coach will also be deployed to up-skill sales managers.

Impact on the Business

  • Help build a sustainable wealth sales force and significantly improve financial planning capabilities and Member engagement activities of the front-
  • line sales force by working with sales managers to provide superior coaching support.

  • Support sales managers in improving Member satisfaction, sales quality, deepening and building the member relationship with Meridian while ensuring we maintain a profitable scale.
  • Provide internal technical consultancy in area of expertise surrounding financial planning techniques and where and how products fit into overall portfolio is as defined by Meridian.
  • Support the enhance the learning curve of using wealth platforms for financial planning and other key Member engagements.
  • Support sales managers in communicating the wealth strategy while assistant sales representatives in achieving growth, acquisition and income goals.
  • Drive market-leading standards for conduct and controls in line with Meridian values and expectations.
  • Members / Stakeholders

  • Work with sales managers to identify target audience, areas of development and agree upon expected outcomes.
  • Join client calls or meetings with sales representatives to identify development opportunities but do not directly provide advice to Members.
  • Effectively use performance KPIs, Member feedback, and knowledge of top performers to accelerate the on boarding and drive the development of newly hired and core contributing sales representatives.
  • Effectively deploy coaching techniques and using structured development plans to help sales representatives learn and grow.
  • Facilitate in-person and remote coaching sessions in groups and / or one-on-one for areas of expertise.
  • Leadership & Teamwork

  • Deliver coaching to build licensed sales representatives skills on specific knowledge areas or areas or skill-sets, e.
  • g. financial planning, sales activity management, sales quality etc.

  • Proactively implement advanced coaching techniques to motivate and encourage learning and re-enforce application within the workplace.
  • Work with sales managers and Branch Managers to facilitate sharing of best practices, monitoring, and supporting the development and optimization of business and financial performance of the sales team.
  • Work with all areas of Meridian to ensure the consistent approach and application of sales standards.
  • Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Ensure all processes and procedures are accurate and in accordance with Meridian policy standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with industry regulators and Meridian regulations in all aspects of strategy, sales processes, product suitability, Member correspondence, administration, and complaint handling.
  • Adhere to all relevant processes and procedures of the compliance policy and internal controls.
  • Contribute to Meridian creating and retaining market leading standards and controls.
  • Implement compliance policy by managing compliance risk in partnership with Meridian compliance team, ensuring adequate compliance resources and training, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators.
  • Ensure that all employees are aware of and effectively identify and manage applicable money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions and reputational risks.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Retail banking experience and knowledge required
  • Proven investment / mutual fund sales leadership skills
  • Strong coaching and influencing skills
  • Passion for investments, coaching and developing people
  • Knowledge of Wealth industry regulations and compliance
  • Proven ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment and prioritize work assignments
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to support the building of strong relationship
  • Travel may be required for branch visits
  • Education, Designations, Training, and Experience
  • University or College degree or a combination of equivalent education and experience in wealth management or related industry
  • Currently licensed as a MFDA or IIROC representative
  • CSC and / or PFP preferred
  • Minimum of (5) five to (7) seven years of direct investment sales experience, preferably in a branch retail environment
