CIMA is seeking a highly motivated Junior Structural Technologist to join our team in beautiful Vancouver, BC. You will be involved in a range of projects and tasks related to telecommunication and electrical utility distribution and transmission (T&D) infrastructure.

You may also support emerging projects in other areas such as telecommunications, industrial electrical, substations, and renewable energy.


  • Perform design tasks for T&D projects such as Pole Line Analysis (PLA) for telecommunication and electric utility poles.
  • Support the development of design and construction standards for various distribution and transmission applications.
  • Prepare calculations, drawings, construction and work packages and other project base deliverables.
  • Prepare technical inputs for reports, specifications, proposals, project schedules and cost estimates.
  • Communicate with stakeholders for various aspects of the project, including regular communication about project progress,
  • Perform site visits to validate scope requirements and determine existing assets condition and prepare site survey reports.
  • Ensure design work conforms to all applicable national codes and client standards.
  • Utilize client based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other records for data collection during the design process;
  • Produce bill of material and enter material acquisition requests in the GIS.

  • Coordinate with utility companies, all levels of government agencies, municipalities, and other companies and institutions.
  • Perform and assist with additional duties and tasks based on project requirements and other job functions as assigned.
  • Profile

  • Structural technologist diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with electric utility distribution or transmission standards, systems and processes.
  • Experience working with PLS-CADD, SpidaCalc, Pull Planner, CYME or other utility software is desired.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is strongly desired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is required;
  • Excellent problem solving and multitasking skills;
  • Capability to work independently and in a team;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure;
  • Client focused and attention to detail, eager to learn, self-motivated;
  • Excellent skills with the Microsoft 365 platform (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams);
  • Working knowledge of a GIS (Graphical Information System) such as ArcGIS, GE SmallWorld or similar would be an asset;
  • Valid British Columbia Class 5 driving license.
