CIMA is seeking a highly motivated Junior Structural Technologist to join our team in beautiful Vancouver, BC. You will be involved in a range of projects and tasks related to telecommunication and electrical utility distribution and transmission (T&D) infrastructure.
You may also support emerging projects in other areas such as telecommunications, industrial electrical, substations, and renewable energy.
Perform design tasks for T&D projects such as Pole Line Analysis (PLA) for telecommunication and electric utility poles.
Support the development of design and construction standards for various distribution and transmission applications.
Prepare calculations, drawings, construction and work packages and other project base deliverables.
Prepare technical inputs for reports, specifications, proposals, project schedules and cost estimates.
Communicate with stakeholders for various aspects of the project, including regular communication about project progress,
Perform site visits to validate scope requirements and determine existing assets condition and prepare site survey reports.
Ensure design work conforms to all applicable national codes and client standards.
Utilize client based Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other records for data collection during the design process;
Produce bill of material and enter material acquisition requests in the GIS.
Coordinate with utility companies, all levels of government agencies, municipalities, and other companies and institutions.
Perform and assist with additional duties and tasks based on project requirements and other job functions as assigned.
Structural technologist diploma or equivalent.
Experience with electric utility distribution or transmission standards, systems and processes.
Experience working with PLS-CADD, SpidaCalc, Pull Planner, CYME or other utility software is desired.
Experience with AutoCAD is strongly desired.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is required;
Excellent problem solving and multitasking skills;
Capability to work independently and in a team;
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure;
Client focused and attention to detail, eager to learn, self-motivated;
Excellent skills with the Microsoft 365 platform (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams);
Working knowledge of a GIS (Graphical Information System) such as ArcGIS, GE SmallWorld or similar would be an asset;
Valid British Columbia Class 5 driving license.
