Surerus Pipeline Inc is looking for a Project Safety Lead to join our team. The Project Safety Lead is responsible for all aspects of the on-site effective implementation of the Surerus Safety Management System and for serving as the Company’s safety representative on-site.
Ensure the on-site effective implementation of the Surerus Safety Management System.
Assess compliance with the applicable safety codes, procedures, relevant documentation, and commitments.
Develop, implement and manage initiatives to ensure that newly identified risks, hazards, or behaviours are effectively managed.
Assist Construction Managers, Project Managers and Superintendents in ensuring compliance at the work location.
Act as site representative on health and safety matters with customer representatives, regulatory bodies, and industry experts.
Perform site inspections, audits and lead investigations.
Lead a team of safety professionals to successfully contribute to ensuring regular site inspections, coaching, and development of all employees.
Mentor, train and develop Project Safety Advisors and Project Safety Administrators.
Conduct site safety meetings.
Manage and administrate all project reporting requirements, both internally and externally while maintaining contractual deadlines.
Responsible and accountable for the project’s safety performance.
Support operations and functional management in the achievement of corporate initiatives.
Note : In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Occupational Health & Safety Certificate, or other industry recognized training, and / or
Combination of education and relevant experience.
8-10 years of experience in a safety related position in the oil & gas construction industry, including
2-4 years of experience in a safety management role in a related industry (i.e. pipeline construction, facility construction).
Skills and Knowledge
Understanding of the oil and gas pipeline construction industry.
Understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Acts, Regulations and Codes (mostly Alberta and British Columbia) and how it pertains to daily field tasks.
Ability to represent the Company in front of the Client in a professional and courteous manner.
Ability to effectively communicate in large crowd settings.
Maintain a professional attitude in high pressure settings.
Ability to read and understand relevant documentation pertaining the successful and safe completion of each project (legislation, Surerus Safety Management System, and other industry specific standards / practices).
Proven understanding of the effective management of incidents, and near hits.
Familiarity with relevant construction codes, standards, and practices.
Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
This position is field based and often works within remote project locations. Travel and / or living in temporary accommodations will be required.
