Key Objectives for Vice President, Institutional Investments :

The Vice President, Institutional Investments, will work as part of HSBC Global Asset Management's Institutional Sales Team, working with Canadian corporations to provide cash management solutions including liquidity funds, money market funds, short duration strategies and bespoke mandates.

The Salesperson will be responsible for a consultative sales process to raise assets from existing HSBC Bank clients. In addition, the Salesperson will work alongside the Head of Institutional Investments to grow the external wholesale business with wealth managers, Outsourced Chief Investment Officers, and Defined Contribution pension plan administrators.

It is expected that the successful candidate will be a collaborative, goal-oriented professional with a distinguished track record of raising assets with institutional clients.

  • The ability to cultivate relationships with corporate executives and manager research teams is an important attribute. The ability to operate with limited oversight;
  • be self-directed, organized and results-oriented will be critical to success. It is expected that the salesperson will work with colleagues in the institutional sales team in a collaborative fashion.

    Principle Accountabilities :

  • Develop the Canadian Asset Management liquidity business by leading the sales efforts for HSBC Global Liquidity Solutions to corporate clients in Canada
  • Work with the Head of Institutional Investments to develop the Canadian Asset Management external wholesale business with wealth managers, Outsourced Chief Investment Officers, and Defined Contribution pension plan administrators
  • Build and develop relationships internally with HSBC Global Banking and Commercial Banking relationship managers covering both Canadian headquartered clients as well as Canadian subsidiaries of Bank clients globally
  • Understand Canadian clients' distinct investment behaviours as it relates to cash management, maintain existing relationships, and grow an existing book of business
  • Understand local competitive positioning of HSBC products and identify opportunities for third party platforms
  • Represent Asset Management Canada at relevant HSBC and Asset Management Global meetings, and support key growth initiatives
  • Work in partnership with regional and global institutional teams to effectively implement sales strategy as well as gain insight into institutional market developments
  • Coordinate with internal HSBC product partners in Global Markets, Global Liquidity and Cash Management, Securities Services etc.
  • to promote our liquidity products and collaborate on client planning and marketing efforts

  • Partner with product management to identify product gaps or enhancement ideas and contribute to development of long-term vision / product strategy
  • Represent the Asset Management liquidity business in Canada and participate in industry events
  • Encourage and enable constructive cross-department teamwork by demonstrating collaboration.
  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Work alongside Canadian Asset Management's Legal, Regulatory Compliance, Product Development and other teams to promote and apply best practice
  • Develop and recommend changes and improvements to procedures and best practices based on client and organizational needs.
  • Communicate and adhere to HSBC policy and procedures in order to ensure good operational, policy and procedural compliance and early identification and effective resolution or escalation of issues that arise.
  • Qualifications

    Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications :


  • Prior asset management sales experience with institutional clients
  • Licenses : Registered with Provincial Securities Commission
  • Preferred : Master Degree in Business or Chartered Financial Analyst
  • Industry Knowledge :

  • Investment Management knowledge
  • Investment Management industry sales processes / business methodologies
  • Knowledge of Industry trends and regulatory knowledge
  • Competitor knowledge, including products
  • Product knowledge relating to HSBC solutions
  • Sales Experience :

  • Strong sales and marketing skills, with attention to detail
  • A proven track record of selling investment solutions to institutional clients
  • Strong relationship building skills - creativity, patience and persistence in identifying and pursuing new relationships as well as maintaining and deepening existing relationships over the long term
  • Client service orientation enabling effective cross selling to existing clients
  • Strong written and oral communication skills - clear and organized thinking, an engaging personal style
