Motion Capture Technician

The motion capture technician is essential to ensuring that shoot days run smoothly and efficiently while ensuring high quality data capture.

Type of position : Permanent, full-time.

Responsibilities :

The main and routine functions of the Motion Capture Technician are to :

  • Assist team on capture projects (ie. system calibration, markering talent / props / sets, capturing, post shoot duties etc.);
  • Resolve any timecode issues (Good understanding of timecode : LTC, VITC, and metadata).
  • Ensure high quality data capture / data quality assurance during shoots;
  • Track and retarget motion capture data;
  • Maintain, install and repair studio equipment;
  • Re-aiming cameras and testing new set-ups;
  • Contribute to the continued improvement of the mocap production process;
  • Ensure pipeline efficiency;
  • Participate in improving data delivery pipeline;
  • Stay current with motion capture practices;
  • Pipeline management;
  • File management.
  • Training

    Diploma or Degree in related industry.

    Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar position or any other relevant experience;
  • Experience working in film an asset;
  • Experience in the video game industry an asset.
  • Other Skills

  • Understanding and familiarity of Broadcast Systems and Digital Transmission of video formats
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting abilities of complex systems and networks
  • Building Coax and Audio Cables
  • Soldering experience and practical experience with circuit boards
  • Basic Understanding of computer networks.
  • Competency with Windows OSes and basic familiarity with Linux OS derivatives
  • Some programming / scripting languages (C++, Python) and willingness to learn
  • On-set experience with actors, directors and performances;
  • Experience with Motion Capture hardware, performance capture pipelines, and current related technologies;
  • Strong skills and experience in Motion Builder, IQ / Blade and one traditional 3D package such as Maya, Max or XSI;
  • Data management;
  • Excellent communication skills and high-level of customer service;
  • Ability to collaborate and share knowledge within a team;
  • Must be willing to embrace change, and adhere to tight deadlines.
