We are hiring a Full-time Nurse Practitioner to join our Elective Psychiatry Services team for the Homewood Health Centre in Guelph and are looking for you.

This is an ONA position and is governed by the Collective Agreement between ONA and Homewood Health Centre.
Hours of work : This is a Full-time position (75 hours bi-weekly) Including, days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays

The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively as part of our health team professionals in an interdisciplinary model and under the supervision of a physician to meet the unique needs of patients requiring nursing consultation.
By utilizing theoretical and clinical expertise, the Nurse Practitioner delivers advanced practice nursing to patients and families with complex situations within Homewood Health Centre.
What the job entails :
Utilizes a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and an advanced level of clinical competence in caring for patients, which will include health assessments and diagnosis of medical and cognitive problems, developing and implementing a plan of care, providing health counselling and emotional support in the areas of health promotion and the prevention of illness, injury and complication.
Works in collaboration with the admitting psychiatrist to facilitate assessment and treatment planning for patients admitted to Psychiatry Services.
Supports the management of patients in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team including comprehensive nursing / medical history, physical and psychosocial assessment of the patients’ status.
Utilizes established care paths and order sets to guide care practices for the patient population from admission through to discharge.
Assists in / coordinates care with patients, families and communities.
Creates and maintains a climate for and a commitment to healing within a therapeutic relationship. Documents and communicates the patient’s beliefs, values, and wishes, honoring them as much as possible given respect for others and legal, ethical and professional boundaries.
Demonstrates sensitivity to culture, situation and family dynamics.
Maximizes the patient’s participation and control in their own treatment, providing information and support for decision making.
Facilitates change directed by the patient, mapped out by mutually developed goals.
Prioritizes care and workload in collaboration with interprofessional team and the admitting Psychiatrist.
Documents according to professional standards, the principles of clear communication, and Homewood policy and procedure.
of Hires Needed 1 Job Requirements
What we are looking for :
3 + years nursing experience, with mental health and addiction expertise preferred.
Current registration in the Extended Class (Nurse Practitioner) with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
Active membership in related professional associations required, e.g. NPAO, RNAO.
Mental Health Nursing certificate preferred.
Masters of Nursing required.
Innovative, creative and professional role model.
Possess excellent assessment and clinical skills.
Ability to prioritize / organize multiple demands.
Ability to work autonomously.
Working knowledge of Mental Health Act and community mental health resources.
CPR / Basic rescuer.
Highly skilled in assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders, including PTSD, mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, delirium, depression, suicide prevention, and the management of aggressive behavior.
Current knowledge and experience specific to emergency Mental Health and crisis intervention.
