The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications :

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a safety role
  • Diploma, Certificate or equivalent training in Health and Safety
  • Professional Safety Designation or the ability to obtain
  • Alberta COR Auditor Certification or the ability to obtain
  • Valid class 5 Driver’s License
  • An extensive knowledge of federal, provincial and local safety and environmental laws and regulations
  • Ability to collaborate with internal business partners, senior management and regulatory agencies
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with difficult situations with tact and professionalism
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to learn quickly (strong learning agility)
  • Ability to work independently, self-directing and in a team environment
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to sudden changes in work demands
  • Job duties include, but are not limited to the following :

  • Leading all staff in safety culture. Providing resources for safety questions and issues as they arise;
  • Verify compliance of the Corporate Safety Program(s) at a local operating company-level;
  • Monitoring staff adherence to the company’s safety procedures, practices and policies through process and task audits;
  • Identifying unsafe practices with the goal of preventing re-occurrence;
  • Developing and implementing information gathering process(es) to obtain input from all staff of the operating company on suggested improvements to systems and processes;
  • Coaching and training supervisors on safety procedures, hazard assessments, practices and policies based on Corporate Compliance & Safety Programs, local processes and reviewing effectiveness;
  • Writing and updating Safe Job Procedures (SJP) as needed for the Operating Company;
  • Reviewing and providing input for Safe Work Practices (SWP) to Corporate Compliance;
  • Verifying PSI completion and the effectiveness of hazard identification at the field level; and,
  • Guiding and promoting the completion of EOHS action plans and COR corrective actions.
