Position Description :
The Associate, Business Implementation, Central Business Services, is accountable for the assessment and management of implementing investment products, strategies and business-
line initiatives at the CPP Investment Board as part of the New Products and Activities team. The team acts as a change agent, reviewing current processes, suggesting creative alternatives and ensuring that the future state vision is efficiently integrated into day-
to-day operations with appropriate controls to address major risks.
The team is responsible for coordinating and directing various internal and external stakeholders towards the successful completion of new investment initiatives.
As a result, this role requires someone with excellent oral and written communication skills, superior organizational and project management skills and the ability to influence others.
The Associate, Business Implementation, Central Business Services, will be expected to develop into a Subject Matter Expert regarding the end-
to-end process for supporting the rollout of new products, business initiatives and projects across various investment management support areas.
Implementation of new investment programs
Assess the impact of new and expanded investment activity on operations, reporting, infrastructure and downstream data consumers
Work with colleagues across the organization to implement trade life-cycle supporting procedures for new initiatives
Ensure documentation surrounding new product launches remain current, accurate, accessible and signed-off by all stakeholders
Enhance internal control functions to ensure products traded have been approved. Develop and maintain tracking databases related to new business initiatives
Managing risks associated the implementation of new products and activities
Assist in the management of projects of varying size and complexity, including planning, analysis, testing, documentation and implementation
Design and implement new or revised business processes to support the mandate of Public Market Investments while ensuring that adequate controls are in place to mitigate risks associated with new processes
Become a key knowledge resource by providing guidance and support to other teams across the organization
Liaise and collaborate with Public Markets Investments, Total Portfolio Management, Core Services, counterparties and vendors
Assist in managing the on boarding and due diligence process for trading counterparties
Relationship Building and Leadership
Establish and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with various levels of employees across key areas of CPPIB including Finance, Operations, Risk, Public Market Investments, Legal, Tax, Total Portfolio Management and Information Technology
Act as a Subject Matter Expert and pro-actively share knowledge with key individuals and team members including senior level employees
Assist in the creation of ongoing education and training programs, initiatives and practice / procedure development to ensure continuous improvement
Strive to continuously improve processes and culture for scalability at CPPIB
Position Requirements :
University Degree in Finance or a related field. CPA, CFA and six sigma certifications are considered assets
Experience in project management is considered an asset
5-10 years of experience in an operations, risk, due diligence, audit, investment or finance environment is necessary
Solid working knowledge of investment products, trade lifecycle, accounting and operational risk controls
Strategic thinking and proactive in seeking out and implementing well designed and controlled operational processes
Strong problem solving skills and ability to address issues in an expeditious manner
Ability to lead and influence a broad stakeholder group
Strong analytical mind combined with creative thinking
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Well-developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas in a manner that can be more easily understood by a wide audience
Demonstrated experience building and retaining solid working relationships internally and externally, including senior-level personnel
