Job Summary :
Reporting to the Dean of International Education, The Manager, Education Abroad is responsible for the development and implementation of policy, procedure and programs that promote international mobility and learning abroad to enrich the educational experience of students, staff and faculty from across the VIU community.
The Manager works collaboratively across the VIU community and in particular with other IE departments, the President's office, decanal areas, Student Affairs, Finance and Human Resources and with external stakeholders to provide leadership, guidance and expertise;
to minimize risks associated with international activities; and to ensure international mobility activities are consistent with VIU's vision, mission and values.
Work collaboratively to facilitate the planning, promotion and budgeting of international internships, exchanges, field schools, practicum placements and other international mobility opportunities for VIU students
Work collaboratively to facilitate the planning and promotion of short-term teaching, exchange, professional development, and research opportunities abroad for VIU staff and faculty
Develop and negotiate international partnerships and contracts
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop new and innovative opportunities for international mobility
Actively contribute to on-campus internationalization and global citizenship initiatives
Provide direct oversight to Education Abroad staff, student employees and volunteers
Develop and monitor budgets and ensure financial feasibility of a wide range of international mobility initiatives including field schools, exchange partnerships, and international mobility projects
Oversee a diverse portfolio of scholarships, grants, and awards to facilitate international mobility and international engagement for students, faculty and staff
Work collaboratively with various VIU departments / units and provide guidance and expertise in order to minimize the risks associated with VIU's international mobility activities
Develop and implement policy and procedures consistent with best practices across the post-secondary sector in risk management for international mobility programming
Conduct orientations and provide training and resources for students, staff and faculty traveling outside of Canada on international mobility initiatives.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
Minimum 5 years of experience developing relevant contracts, budgets, and programs within a university setting.
Proven cross-cultural competence, including experience living or working abroad.
Experience in managing diverse groups of faculty, staff and students.
Excellent communication and organizational skills with experience in designing and delivering training sessions and workshops.
Knowledge of International Education programs, policies and procedures.
Demonstrated experience in managing education abroad activities and in risk management.
Preferred Qualifications :
Master's degree in a relevant field. Proficiency in a language other than English. Experience living or working in the Global South.
