Stantec has an exciting opportunity for a Transportation Business Center Sector Leader for our Edmonton, AB office. The Sector Leader position is for an individual that is talented in planning, strategic opportunity development, business top line performance, management of opportunity teams, and a technical expert that can be in a key technical project role and provide strategic advice and direction throughout project development.
Leading teams and collaborating with regional leaders are key to this opportunity. The successful candidate will be passionate about business development and sales and have a strong focus on developing strategic business targets to meet sales goals leading a team of account managers.
This senior level position reports directly to the Regional Business Leader for the Transportation Group and works collaboratively with Stantec’s Transportation Leadership team.
This role will involve providing technical direction and guidance at the business centre level, as well as identifying business development opportunities in a fast-
paced, customer-facing environment.
Your Key Responsibilities
Sustaining and growing revenue within our primary business sectors, helping to achieve top line growth for the Business Centre, and supporting the Managing Lead to achieve key operational performance metrics
Leading local business development pursuits including proposal development for the group, coordinating a core group of engineering professionals in Edmonton to achieve business development and financial goals
Supporting regional, national and global transportation initiatives
Participating in and leading (when required) marketing and business development meetings, client surveys, and local business center improvement plans
Assisting with developing the annual business plan and budget for the business center and working with the leadership team to achieve key performance indicators
Leading growth in revenue for Edmonton Projects by cultivating client relationships and documenting progress using action registers, financial progress reporting, etc.
Building a strong technical quality culture, identifying technical gaps within teams and working with local leadership and Human Resources to address gaps
Attracting key staff to Stantec’s Transportation team to facilitate growth
Leads by example, encourages innovation, and provides opportunity.
Coaching, mentoring, and developing future leaders
Promoting a strong health and safety culture within the Business Centre
Contributing to the development and execution of the national business strategy for the Transportation Group, with accountability for region-
specific strategies and priorities Working collaboratively and communicating regularly with business center, regional, and national sector leadership to achieve key performance indicators
Leads the development of the BC annual budget in collaboration with the BCML, BCDL and the other BC Leaders
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Exceptionally strong understanding of the Edmonton market.
Demonstrated technical and project management skills on major projects.
Experience with responding to Requests for Proposals, Expression of Interests, Statement of Qualifications.
Strong business development skills, including significant experience building and maintaining productive relationships with a client base (such experience within a consulting organization in Edmonton is considered a strong asset).
Proven ability to effectively lead, challenge, and inspire staff to work together cohesively as a team.
Substantial leadership, communication and team building skills.
An entrepreneurial orientation with strong understanding of the business development challenges of a consulting services provider.
Demonstrated ability to champion both technical and customer service excellence with conviction and purpose.
Proven project management and technical skills applicable to the delivery of Transportation projects.
Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet multiple and varied deadlines.
Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills.
Possess the highest degree of integrity.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or related equivalent.
Professional Engineering designation with at least 10 years of relevant, professional experience.
Position will primarily work in an office setting; however, some field work may be required.
