Position : Nurse Practitioner
Regular Full-Time (1.0 FTE) Days
Program : Nursing Professional Practice
Location : Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre
Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing, the Nurse Practitioner assists in the delivery of primary health care services to clients of the ROHCG.
Accountability #1 : Assessment and Diagnosis :
Participate in assessment, diagnostic, therapeutic management and consultation activities related to acute and chronic medical needs of our patients.
Perform comprehensive physical assessments for all patients admitted to ROHCG including a health history, a review of systems, all current medication, and health promotion.
Integrate clinical findings informed by evidence-based practice to formulate diagnoses and development of the initial care plan in collaboration with the General Practitioner.
Monitor ongoing conditions for patients with stabile and chronic illnesses.
Monitor medical complications and conditions related to psychopharmacological drug use.
Collaborate with patients and their interdisciplinary team members to identify pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions to achieve best possible health.
Accountability #2 : Preventative Care :
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to provide preventative medicine to the patients of the ROHCG.
Routine physical health reviews and ongoing assessment of long-term physical disorders.
Lead and participate in initiatives driving health promotion.
Accountability #3 : Other Duties :
Provide metabolic clinical oversight related to psychotropic medications.
Consultative support services : email and / or telephone supportive care to staff, extended health care staff and local hospitals, health units for inpatients of the ROHCG.
Medical officer responsibilities for outbreaks on inpatient units.
Participate in activities related to student mentorship.
Advocates for supportive and safe client care as well as collaborative practice and utilization of evidence-informed practices, in conjunction with other primary care providers at The Royal including the Nurse Practitioner at other sites.
Participate in evaluation activities.
Master’s Degree in Nursing or BSCN with specialty certification as Nurse Practitioner is required.
Specialty certification as a Nurse Practitioner Primary Health Care (NP-PHC) or a Nurse Practitioner Adult (NP-Adult) is required.
Current registration as a Registered Nurse in the Province of Ontario in the Extended Class is required (CNO).
Able to meet the Standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Relevant clinical experience in specialty area.
Able to demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation and incorporation of this legislation into practice (Mental health Act, Health Care Consent Act, Substitute Decision Act, and PHIPA).
Able to demonstrate achievement of the nurse practitioner competencies of professional role, responsibility and accountability, health assessment and diagnosis, therapeutic management and health promotion and prevention of illness and injury.
Have met the Royal nursing and hospital standards for mandatory education (CPR, WHIMIS, Fire Safety and Evacuation Training).
CPI and ASSIST training is considered an asset.
Recognized leadership skills with the ability to build the inter-disciplinary team approach to care delivery.
Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional inter-disciplinary treatment team.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check vulnerable sector.
English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingualism (English / French) is considered an asset.
Salary Range : $49.15 to $60.13 hourly
