Primary Purpose of Position
Reporting to the Supervisor Tool Design and CFD, the incumbent is primarily responsible for conducting flow and thermal simulation / analysis of new and existing tooling to ensure products meet customer quality and performance requirements.
This position will also include establishing standard processes, best practices and advancing the simulation accuracy and capabilities within Meridian.
Other aspects of the position include process and product evaluations, participate in casting trials, and perform other various testing related to product robustness and assessment.
Major Responsibilities of Position
Conduct and interpret flow simulation studies using established guidelines and practices.
Lead the improvement of flow simulation techniques and maintain best practices and design process documentation.
Lead the development and advancement of core competencies and subject matter expertise as it relates to flow simulation.
Provide guidance and ensure all MAGMASoft® simulation studies are completed in accordance with best practices and maximum efficiency.
Attend casting trials / samples to close the loop’ of simulation vs reality
Document and report results in accordance with specific program requirements.
Complete flow simulation activities on time and within quoted metrics.
Provide guidance and leadership to colleagues.
Work collaboratively and confidently with plants and design groups across the Meridian organization
Participate in continuous improvement projects.
Support technical reviews and meetings with customers.
Participate as a team member in broad engineering assignments.
Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Supplier to Business Development Group, to grow the business sales and remove technical barriers during early product development activities.
Supplier to Meridian Global Manufacturing sites, to provide technical issue resolution during product launches and normal production.
Supplier to OEM R&D / Technical Specialists in area of flow simulation
Supplier to Tool Shop Design Teams to provide recommendations for tool design based off flow simulation results
Customer to Vendor / Suppliers of simulation technologies
Educational and Certification Background
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering
1-5 years Engineering / Manufacturing / Business experience in the automotive industry
Experience with Casting Simulation Software (Desirable)
Masters / Ph.D in Engineering (focus on thrmofluids) with 1-3 years experience in die casting industry (Desirable)
P.Eng. designation (Desirable)
