  • In this role you will :

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the client group operations and workforce and their needs and priorities for people services and understand how to leverage the collective People Services team to meet those needs and priorities
  • Participate as an active member of the client group’s leadership team
  • Assess critical workforce metrics and data (e.g., surveys, exit interviews, focus groups) to generate insights that inform decisions and strategy and reports to the client’s leadership team
  • In consultation with the broader PS team, ensure the design, delivery and continuous evaluation of people services strategies, programs and investments in response to business needs
  • Provide leadership and guidance to workers and managers on the interpretation of Human Resources related policies and employment legislation, monitors compliance and acts on gaps and risks
  • Consult on issues related to performance, policy breaches, HR related complaints, termination, etc. and guide management in their effective resolution
  • Prepare the People Services team to support surge for local, national and international response for large catastrophic / emergency response events
  • In response, work with leaders to ensure coverage and capacity with a constantly moving response plan
  • Attract, recruit and retain a pool of People Services volunteer responders ready to respond within area of geographic responsibility
  • Keep the broader People Services team informed of the operational activities and requirements of their client group
  • Build a talented, flexible and highly performing team by understanding the needs of the client and the resources of the broader PS team, apply sound management practices, provide opportunities for team members to develop, facilitate communication and information sharing and lead by example in a matrix structure
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation and monitoring of a multi-year operational and financial plan
  • We’re looking for :

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Human Resources Management, business or related discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as an HR generalist or equivalent senior management experience
  • Human Resources designation or working towards is preferred
  • Experience working in a complex matrix environment, with a diverse group of stakeholders (employees, volunteers and delegates)
  • Strong customer service orientation and planning, priority setting and negotiation skills to manage multiple clients with competing priorities
  • Experience developing and implementing a range of workforce strategies and programs in response to business needs (e.g.
  • workforce planning, compensation, development, performance management)

  • Experience coaching and providing advice on complex people relations issues (e.g., performance management, discipline, termination, restructuring, change management)
  • Professionalism, credibility and exceptional interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a team and establish and manage productive internal and external relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Strong process and change management skills combined with outstanding communications skills, confidence and humility
  • Computer and numerical literacy, comfort working with data bases, metrics and applicant tracking system
  • Understanding and up to date on employment related legislation, HR best practices, volunteer best practices and HR trends
  • Fluency (speaking, reading and writing) in English is essential; fluency in French is desirable
  • Experience working in a response organization is an asset
  • Ability to work some non-traditional and longer hours often on short notice especially during times of emergency response, travel within Canada will be required
  • Must be able to complete a satisfactory Enhanced Police Information check and Driver's Abstract
