QM is currently seeking a Site Surveyor to join our team for the delivery of a major project in downtown Toronto. This is a long-term position with opportunities to leverage technical ability and innovation across our project portfolio in Canada

You will work closely with the Survey Manager and Project Manager to carry out survey and layout with a high level of accuracy, ensuring the design criteria are adhered to and well documented.
You will create job models for GNSS / GPS controlled equipment, evaluate three dimensional excavation block models, and create a variety of figures and data products, including records of as built conditions.
You will validate and verify field conditions and spatial system performance. Your position plays a critical role in the success and accuracy of the projects.
Survey and Geomatics
Interpret and extract data from an existing owner-provided 4 Dimensional (4DIM) Model for soil classification and spatial coordinates
Design, manage, and implement field level segregation of the 4DIM model into individual excavation blocks for reference, daily use, vehicle tracking, and GNSS-controlled equipment programming (primarily dozers and excavators)
Work with pipe-laying crews to lay out and check high-precision gravity drainage systems
Work with on-site database manager and subcontractor to correlate excavation & stockpile data with material / vehicle tracking database
Establish control points, reference stakes and reference laser elevations
Verify and validate model and field performance with drone data and field survey
Potentially support drone overflights and data management (Trimble Stratus or similar)
Perform as lead technical field support with respect to surveying (topographic, construction and similar)
Collect field data
Maintain data and data quality
Process field data
Verify accuracy of survey data
Record the results of survey including the shape, contour, locations, elevation and dimensions of land or land features
Collect and record required as-built data
Coordinate findings with the work of engineering and construction personnel
Collaborate with our Team in applying and improving the work process
Capture data to support progress tracking and billing;
Create reports and figures
Other duties as required
Consistently act as a leader, mentor and role model with respect to QM LP’s Health and Safety Program, both on and off the work site

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND KEY COMPETENCIES
Education & Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in civil, geomatics or survey engineering OR equivalent college diploma in survey science or geomatics technology with work experience and continuing education
CET, EIT, P.Eng. or Qualified and Licensed Ontario Land Surveyor is not required, but would be an asset
4+ years of experience at the professional level
Experience in scheduling, ordering, field supervision, quality control, field data collection
Experience producing models for GNSS / GPS controlled equipment
Experience with heavy civil / excavation
Experience with pipe and drain installation and with geosynthetic installation is not required, but would be an asset
Have an in-depth knowledge of field surveying including, topographical surveys and construction layouts predominantly for civil construction
Be very familiar with earthworks, grading, excavation, fill, compaction, sloping and shoring, the related equipment and the related hazards
Understand survey equipment such as total stations, robotic total stations, data collectors, global positioning receivers, base stations, theodolites and levels
Know how to setup and run base stations and survey rovers
Demonstrate a solid knowledge of survey theory and GNSS / GPS technology
Be proficient with Trimble, Autodesk, and Microsoft suite software
Knowledge / experience with Trimble Stratus, Earthsoft EQuIS is not required, but would be an asset
Self-starter with the ability to set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality and productivity
Be able to clearly communicate survey requirements and survey / grade / limit data to site staff, specifically including equipment operators, and be able to quickly and accurately set out reference stakes and reference marks to help them complete their work.
Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
Strong work ethic with the ability to work individually and as a team
Committed to working safe and getting the job done
Majority of time will be spent on job sites
Travel will be required
Use of specialized PPE, including half or full-faced respirator, may be required (training provided)
Work is outdoors and exposed to weather (dress appropriately)
Hours can be long, between 10 12 hours per day based on project and client requirements
