Reports to Senior Director, Tax Planning & Execution.

What you will do :

  • Work with the Senior Director, Tax Planning & Execution to develop, quantify, communicate and implement tax planning strategies
  • Work with the Senior Director, Tax Planning & Execution to review existing and planned business operations and transactions to optimize tax impacts
  • Work with the Senior Director, Tax Planning & Execution to develop and execute an effective global tax M&A and due diligence strategy to support Nutrien corporate business development
  • Support Nutrien’s success through developing and delivering effective and practical tax planning solutions that align with business objectives and appropriately manage global tax risk
  • Develop models, prepare diagrams and compile PowerPoint presentations to advance tax planning initiatives within Nutrien
  • Work with the US federal tax compliance team to manage and minimize BEAT, GILTI and Subpart F
  • Assist with appeals and litigation for federal, international and state controversy matters
  • Identify and implement US federal and international tax planning initiatives
  • Liaise with various internal stakeholders to ensure that tax consequences are considered along with major business initiatives
  • Research and stay well-informed of US tax trends and legislative and policy changes
  • Develop responsive actions and communicate with impacted stakeholders
  • Build and maintain successful relationships with all relevant internal and external stakeholders including Nutrien treasury, legal, finance & accounting teams, outside advisors, external auditors, governmental tax auditors, and tax associations
  • Direct and supervise external tax professional service providers to deliver necessary income tax advice
  • Work effectively with peers within Nutrien tax Center of Excellence to collaborate on strategic tax planning projects and ensure accurate tax reporting of significant transactions
  • What you will bring :

  • CPA designation with a Master of Tax or LLB and LLM
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience practicing US tax in either a global organization or a reputable Tax Consulting Firm supporting global organizations
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a predominantly tax planning or M&A role within a global organization or a reputable Tax Consulting Firm supporting global organizations
  • In-depth knowledge of US federal and international tax legislation and policy
  • Working knowledge of state tax considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of foreign tax legislation, including Canada, Australia and Brazil considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of tax provisions considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of transfer pricing considered an asset
  • Strong business orientation / business acumen and keen analytical skills
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and strong attention to detail and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of complex projects, hit milestones, effectively work with cross functional teams and deliver on deadlines all while being organized
  • Able to analyze tax laws, regulations, treaties, etc. in order to extract the right information to make informed recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to develop manage and maintain complex, multi-variable models to finalize decisions supported by data
  • Hard working, quick learner with a positive attitude
