The Vice President, Industry Relations Foodservice works with the SVP, Industry Relations to create sector strategies that position GS1 Canada to meet sector and community needs, achieve cost recovery objectives, and meet corporate goals.

The incumbent will be responsible for managing stakeholders at a senior level, leading strategic planning activities, managing a team mandated to make an integral contribution, interacting and developing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, and reporting to the organization’s executive on departmental goals, activities, and results.

Duties and Responsibilities

Sector Strategy Development

  • Leads the development of the Foodservice sector strategic priorities;
  • Creates, drives and manages critical strategies for government, industry associations and stakeholders to ensure retention and growth;
  • Collaborates with GS1 US Foodservice leads and global contacts as required to design and further GS1 Canada’s foodservice strategy;
  • Provides strategic insight to internal stakeholders to deliver and maximize value;
  • Ensures that corporate strategy is integrated within departmental priorities.
  • Manages Stakeholders :

  • Develops and executes stakeholder initiatives, manages communities and working groups, and directs implementation of plans and projects based on identified industry knowledge and industry trends, including service provider offerings;
  • Provides executive-level reporting to stakeholders both internally and externally;
  • Prepares and facilitates the semi-annual Foodservice Sector Board meetings;
  • Financial Accountabilities :

  • Delivers of Cost Recovery targets pertaining to Foodservice;
  • Collaborates cross-functionally on positioning and pricing to meet cost-recovery goals;
  • Secures and executes contract negotiations with existing and potential stakeholders;
  • Delivers change / action plans to increase value to stakeholders and facilitate cost-recovery.
  • Leading within the Organization :

  • Collaborates with Industry Engagement team by providing strategies and plans to engage vendor community;
  • Ensures that departmental resources are managed effectively in their work, are provided skills training and development opportunities, and are given timely performance reviews;
  • Ensures thorough understanding among the team of relevant emerging technologies and services;
  • Models the GS1 Canada values and provides leadership to develop and maintain a culture of engagement;
  • Performs various other duties as delegated.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a diverse study program (should include Business degree Communications, Arts or Computer Science), with post-graduate studies in commerce or business (e.g., MBA) an asset;
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years’ experience in Foodservice experience at a senior level, with specific involvement in strategic planning, sales, distribution, and supply chain;
  • Possesses a strong understanding of business processes, issues and opportunities within the Foodservice sector;
  • Understands and appreciates the community management aspect of GS1 Canada and possesses facilitation skills to execute;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop / execute strategic plans considering industry trends;
  • Demonstrated success in defining and launching initiatives in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment;
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively gain the support of and facilitate discussion between diverse stakeholders and audiences, including Board members and community management initiatives;
  • Demonstrated success in performing to a high level of satisfaction in a fast-paced, multi-level, project-based environment in which there were tight timelines;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and developing a diverse team of professionals;
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention-to detail, and effective analytical and problem-solving capabilities;
  • Passionate, flexible, and goal driven, with an entrepreneurial spirit suitable for a fast-paced, results-oriented environment;
  • Ability and desire to seek out new learning and insights to deliver against expectations and targets;
  • Understands principles of existing products offered by GS1 Canada;
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite
