The Data, Insights & Analytics team at Loblaw is hiring a Sr. Data Scientist with experience working with modern data science tools and technology and possessing a deep understanding of data mining and analytical techniques.

A track record for driving business insights out of vast quantities of data and presenting to senior management is a must.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Data, Insights & Analytics, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting with problem solving, conducting analyses and developing production-ready models across various parts of the Loblaw enterprise.

We’re looking for a critical thinker capable of creating data driven solutions to help reduce costs, reduce risk, improve processes and enhance profitability.

The successful candidate will have experience with identifying needs and creating process improvement solutions, working with multiple stakeholders and maintaining collaborative relationships with business partners.

It will be critical to be able to clearly demonstrate your proven working knowledge of at least one of the Python / R / SQL programming languages and an awareness of how to build end to end machine learning pipelines.

The candidate will be a self-starter who has a passion for generating new and creative ways to improve effectiveness within the business.

What You'll Do :

Be a subject manager expert within the Data, Insights & Analytics team, establish and manage priority work roadmap and provide leadership support to Data Scientists on the team.

  • Work directly with various business units (heavy focus on Finance teams) to understand their existing processes and identify areas of opportunities and improvement with an emphasis on helping business partners become more self-sufficientExtract and prepare data using SQL, create applications, visualizations and machine learning models based on open source technology (Python / R) to solve business needsDevelop powerful business insights from data using a range of analytical techniques including, but not limited to building predictive models that learn from and scale to large data sets and the production of interactive data visualizationsStrictly adhere to legal and compliance guidelines;
  • regarding access and exposure to sensitive and confidential information

    What You'll Bring :

  • Advanced degree in Finance, Econometrics, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or other related analytical field of studySuperb communication, analytical and conceptual thinking skills;
  • to not only manipulate but also derive meaningful interpretations from massive, complex datasets5-8 years’ demonstrated experience in managing large volume, high frequency relational data sets and leveraging modern enterprise class analytics tools to deliver high quality, impactful analytical solutions to business problems5-8 years’ experience with SQL AND either Python or RExperience working with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP) and an understanding of its components is an assetA strong team player and self-starter with a passion to learn new tools & technology A desire and ability to take initiative, multi-task and work in a collaborative, fast-paced environmentCapability to liaise with all levels across the enterprise on projects and ad-hoc requestsStrong detail orientation is essential in this roleDemonstrated experience of developing, implementing and explaining statistical models (descriptive, predictive & prescriptive) within a finance organization is a huge plus
