  • Provides prompt, efficient, and courteous telephone service to callers who call the Coordinated Access to Addictions 1-800 line
  • Demonstrates effective listening skills to identify appropriate and desired services and supports tailored to caller needs
  • Establishes and maintains therapeutic rapport with callers to facilitate the next step in their personal recovery journey
  • Completes brief telephone screening to determine caller eligibility for community-based addictions services and supports
  • Answers questions from callers about available community services, program eligibility and exclusion criteria, wait lists and service duration
  • Assess and monitors clients at imminent risk of harm due to suicide, overdose and escalates concerns appropriately to emergency services
  • Assesses the caller’s readiness to change substance using behavior and suggests appropriate supports accordingly
  • Determines whether or not a Residential Withdrawal Management bed is available using the city-wide bed board
  • Liaises with Residential Withdrawal Management program staff to provide new client information and set intake assessment times
  • Provides callers seeking a Residential Withdrawal Management bed with information about program location, telephone contact and directions
  • Documents residential withdrawal management services telephone screening results in Datis documentation system
  • Maintains updated Toronto Residential Withdrawal Management bed board system to promote access and flow
  • Completes telephone triage and conducts standardized assessments to facilitate referral to day and community programs for people who use drugs and / or alcohol
  • Completes structured telephone assessments (ie. GAINS-Q3) with callers who are interested in being referred to longer-term residential addictions treatment programs
  • Provides brief supportive counselling interventions for people who use drugs and / or alcohol and their families as appropriate
  • Records data related to all calls and enters data into reports
  • Completes presentations to community agencies on the role and function of Coordinated Access
  • Some virtual transitional support / care may be provided for clients with specialized needs who are experiencing difficulty navigating the system of care
  • Makes decisions based on evidence-based practice, reasoning, and clinical experience and in consultation with key stakeholders
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives
  • Advocates to address challenges like barriers to service and gaps in the system

  • Completed two year college diploma program with a substantive focus on addictions, mental health or concurrent disorders required ie addictions and mental health worker diploma, human services counselling, social service work
  • Recent clinical experience working with people who use drugs and / or alcohol (withdrawal management services, residential treatment, transitional program, day program, counselling program, case management program) is required
  • Completion of a University degree in psychology or mental health and addictions considered an asset
  • Completion of a post-graduate certificate in addictions and mental health from a recognized community college is considered an asset
  • Current certification in GAINS-Q3 is considered an asset
  • Crisis prevention / CPR and mental health first aid certifications are considered an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of community addictions, mental health and social resources in the community is required
  • Crisis Intervention training.
  • CPR / First Aid
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Proficient in the use of computer systems and software packages ie. Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to work flexible hours 7 days a week
  • 1.0 FTE full time evening work assignment 15 : 30-23 : 30 Monday through Friday
