Due to continuing growth in our Rail / Transit practice, we are seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer Rail / Transit for any of our GTA offices.

This position will be integral in the development and growth of GHD's Transit / Rail practice.

Responsibilities :

  • Work closely with the Rail and Transit Business Lead and Managers, Project Directors and Rail and Transit Design Manager with a primary focus on electrical design
  • Design of power distribution (medium and low voltage), lighting design and simulation, fire alarm and life safety systems, communications (PA, intercom, CCTV), industrial equipment installations
  • Technical calculations and software use for lighting analyses, load calculations, arc flash, fault & coordination studies, power system design
  • Working on Alternative Financing project (P3 and Design-Build)
  • On site electrical research, construction audits, field reviews, Commissioning electrical systems
  • Managing an electrical design team and enhancing client relationships
  • Provide strategic input into complex design options and solutions that fit the Client’s requirements
  • Coordinate all aspects of the electrical design including being responsible for the design deliverables
  • Develop or verify the technical scope of a project
  • Complete electrical designs following the budget and schedule
  • Participate in track design coordination meetings and address critical issues that impact external partners
  • Work closely with the engineering group to facilitate decision making related to the electrical design, the choice of process and equipment and day-to-day problems
  • Ensure the client’s requirements including specifications and standards are integrated into the project
  • Ensure quality controls processes are being followed
  • Mentor and develop junior staff
  • Partner with the Project Manager on the budget and schedule on a regular basis, identifying gaps, and providing solutions to achieving the scope, budget and schedule requirements
  • Represent GHD at Client meetings when required
  • Skills, Competencies and Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s (B.Sc.) degree in electrical engineering from a recognized college or university
  • Professional Engineer of Ontario
  • LEED and PMO accreditation is preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years' of extensive technical design experience
  • Proven experience in electrical design delivery for larger, multi discipline projects specifically, complex rail, transit and facilities
  • Experience working in a Design Build environment
  • Detailed understanding of local Agency (or equivalent) Codes and Standards is considered essential
  • Thorough understand of Building Information Management and its application in producing 3D design for Rail and Transit projects
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, MS Project and BIM, and electrical industry and ASHRAE software
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination and project management experience.
  • Experience on projects with sustainable design and LEED aspects related to electrical design elements.
  • Previous direct project experience with an architectural / engineering or engineering consulting firm
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to deal with uncertainty, changing and multiple priorities
