Evonik Industries, its Burnaby, B.C. site, specializes in parenteral formulation development and manufacturing process design and implementation at small, intermediate, and large / commercial scales.

This enables manufacturing of complex lipid-based formulations of therapeutic agents for preclinical and clinical testing in its state-

of-the-art R&D and manufacturing facilities and transfer of drug product manufacturing to commercial facilities. Core manufacturing technologies include liposome extrusion, micro-

mixing, tangential flow filtration (TFF) and sterile filtration with availability of small to large-scale equipment.

The site currently has an opening for a Research Associate QC position, responsible for the development and scale-up manufacturing of lipid nanoparticle-


  • Performs analytical method development and validates methods following GMP regulations.
  • Performs sample analysis according to GMP regulations for raw materials, in-process sample and final products, from solution preparation to report generation.
  • Makes detailed observations in carrying out laboratory analysis; analyzes data and summarizes results.

  • Drafts study plan, protocol and reports. Writes and revises SOPs.
  • Review raw material data package when required.
  • Operates and troubleshoots analytical equipment (HPLC, Dynamic light scattering detector, osmometer, balances, pH meter, etc.
  • and equipment calibration and qualification.

  • Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to method development.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the laboratory.
  • Maintains high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature.
  • Initiates and participate in the investigation of equipment System Suitability Failure(s) and OOS.
  • Participates in client meetings on relevant projects as required.
  • Requirements

  • BSc or MSc in Chemistry or Biochemistry with at least 3 years in a pharmaceutical industry
  • Hands-on experience in instrument analysis using HPLC / UV and HPLC / ELSD for small molecules API and drug products, ideally with Empower software
  • Some hands-on experience in instrument trouble-shooting
  • Problem solving ability in analytical analysis
  • Must have working knowledge of GMP regulations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills (in English)
  • Ability to multi-task and work in teams
  • Good organizational skills, time management and ability to prioritize
  • Possess the desire and potential to grow with the company into a leadership role
