Job Summary

The role of Cloud Systems specialist is to manage CN’s Cloud. The Specialist is responsible for the implementation, design, configuration, maintenance, performance, integrity, security and availability of the Cloud systems.

The Specialist must have an in-depth understanding of the technology and of the applications and business processes. The role acts as a mentor, and establishes policies and procedures with the application and development teams to improve availability and protect the operations.

The Cloud Systems Specialist provides solution engineering, support and administration for Cloud systems and infrastructure.

Main Responsibilities

Operational Excellence

  • Monitor performance of cloud services, identify potential or imminent issues, and implement solutions to ensure continued efficiency of the environment
  • Provide technical leadership to CN’s delivery & architecture teams via the analysis, design and documentation of project requirements;
  • including participation in proof of concept type exercises so as to ensure technical feasibility

  • Develop, implement, administer, and maintain procedures, policies, and standards related to related to CN Cloud infrastructure
  • Participate in the evaluation, recommendation and trials of new Cloud technologies & concepts
  • Review and sign off on project & architectural implementation activities, as well as work performed by external consultants to assure CN operational standards are met
  • Safeguard the systems but also innovate and improve support efficiency
  • Ensure all components of a DBMS, including storage, archiving, capacity management, high availability, backup and recovery procedures are built, configured and monitored correctly
  • Maintain data integrity and security (manage roles and permissions of database users)
  • Manage production, UAT and development database environments
  • Review and approve change controls and change quality as well as infrastructure implementations
  • Work with the team to develop and implement process improvements and solve complex problems
  • Take ownership in defining key performance indicators (KPIs) related to capacity, performance, and services
  • Participate in various projects intended to continuously improve / upgrade infrastructure
  • Prepare and document root cause analysis of production-related database issues
  • Configure, implement and support large high-availability clustered environments
  • Test, validate and implement performance and resource optimization improvements
  • Monitor and maintain database security
  • Execute system admin tasks such as daily routine and operational reports analysis
  • Install and upgrade the database server and application tools
  • Create detailed documentation including diagrams of database infrastructure
  • Delivery

  • Participate in Business projects to design, install and configure new database installations
  • Understand the particular security model that the database product uses and how to use it effectively to control access to the data
  • Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
  • Modify the database structure, as necessary, based on information provided by application developers
  • Adhere to all documented standards, guidelines and procedures
  • Practice Evolution

  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to the team
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) to handle most complex problems
  • Engage with team to define, design and implement suitable automated process solutions to optimize day-to-day support activities
  • Investigate, analyze and resolve issues related to the overall Cloud infrastructure; including post-mortem follow-up and root cause analysis.
  • Maintain productive and effective relationships with key partners & vendors; so as to ensure streamlined contract management, Enforcement of SLO / SLA’s, as well as alignment of expected Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Provide end to end support and coordination for issues involving multiple cloud vendors, in a shared responsibility model : Azure Cloud (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS) and Google Cloud platform (PaaS)
  • Working Conditions

    The Specialist supports a 24 / 7 environment on an on-call rotational basis.


  • Minimum 5 10 years’ relevant work experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in database management
  • 2 years of functional experience with Azure and Google cloud technologies
  • Passionate about onboarding new technologies.
  • Education / Certification / Designation

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent training or work experience
  • MS Azure Administrator or Solution architect
  • MS MCP Windows server
  • Exposure to Google Cloud Platform
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code practices.

  • Technical Skills / Knowledge

  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Excellent knowledge of high-availability technologies and best practices
  • In-depth knowledge of the Data Query Language with ability to write or optimize very complex queries
  • Strong infrastructure management knowledge (such as storage, network, OS and hypervisors)
  • Knowledge of data modelling (asset)
  • Windows, Linux, VMWare VRA
  • Google Cloud Platform
  • Infrastructure as Code practices and tools such as Powershell and Terraform.
