To support our recent and ongoing growth, JLR’s team is looking to add Civil Technologists with three 3 5 years of related experience to augment and round out our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of contract drawings using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroStation for municipal and land development projects, as well as commercial and industrial site developments.

The position may also include site inspection of various land development and municipal projects in the Kingston area.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Working directly with engineers and technologists across JLR’s various office locations as part of an integrated team;
  • Preparation of civil design drawings and details using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and MicroStation;
  • Assisting engineers and technologists with project execution during all project phases;
  • Coordinating with other engineering disciplines, architects and sub-consultants on multidisciplinary projects;
  • Communicating effectively with clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders; and
  • Occasional site visits and inspection duties for various construction projects within the Timmins area.
  • Skills and Qualifications

  • Civil or Construction Engineering Technology diploma;
  • 3 5 years of relevant experience;
  • OACETT designation preferred or eligibility for designation as a C.E.T. or C. Tech;
  • Experience and understanding of the fundamentals of AutoCAD and Civil 3D;
  • Knowledge of MicroStation would be an asset;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of standard engineering and construction principles, practices and techniques;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction products, materials and equipment;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations for construction projects;
  • Knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD);
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and interpersonal;
  • Strong organizational, administrative, observational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail;
  • Ability to produce quality deliverables and to monitor project tasks;
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook);
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, both independently and in a team environment; and
  • Valid Class driver’s license.
