About This Opportunity

Colchester East Hants Health Centre (CEHHC) is seeking a hospitalist to join their team to provide services to acute medicine floors and stroke unit.

CEHHC is the regional stroke site for Colchester, East Hants, and Cumberland Counties,

The stroke team consists of numerous health care professionals, and is led by an internal medicine specialist, who provides stroke care recommendations with the hospitalist acting as the attending physician.

This program also accepts stroke patients from Cumberland County after they have been assessed by an internal medicine specialist in that region.

CEHHC opened its doors to patients in 2012. Located in Truro, it serves as the main acute care facility for the residents of Colchester and East Hants Counties.

Rooted in community support, the health centre has 122 inpatient beds and offers a wide range of inpatient, outpatient, and satellite services.

  • Responsibilities

  • participate in call responsibilities
  • accept admissions from the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Maternal Child Unit (i.e. infants), and transfers from other facilities
  • be available to care for all patients within the hospitalist program until 8 a.m. the following morning
  • respond to calls from the nursing units in a timely manner (10-20 minutes)
  • be onsite within 20 minutes from being requested
  • rotate call coverage throughout the week on a three-week recurring schedule
  • Expected Hours

  • rotations are on a weekly basis from Friday 5 p.m. - Friday 5 p.m.
  • all hospitalists will transfer care at the same date and time
  • two nights of call per week
  • Qualifications

  • all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • all family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
