Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources - Mining, the role of the HR Business Partner is to ensure that SMS managers and supervisors have the knowledge, tools, and support needed to manage the business from a Human Resources perspective.
This position will bring sound advice and guidance to leaders through effective partnerships . The HR Business Partner will provide a full range of human resources client support services to a few business units or functions.
This position has the opportunity to work a hybrid work arrangement up to 50% of the time. The incumbent of this position may be required to travel.
Periods of high workload coinciding with regular annual HR cycles and potential involvement in collective bargaining.
Coach and advise supervisors, managers and employees on Human Resources policies and procedures
Crafts and recommends solutions to address challenges, or opportunities for their client group
Supports the processes established to attract and identify talent and discuss staff needs with managers
Brings stakeholder feedback, to support development of better practices in the areas of talent management and strategic HR management to the organization
Assist in establishing performance expectations and measures and provide support on performance reviews, where needed.
Investigate and resolve day-to-day employee / labour relations problems. Takes appropriate immediate action and escalates as prudent.
Using business acumen, experience and data makes recommendations to improve existing policies and programs
Administration of Collective Agreements and employment contracts
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
This position is considered a Human Resources generalist role, with the successful incumbent possessing a general understanding of various aspects of the human resources function.
The position is expected to provide general expertise in a wide range of integrated human resources related services to management, supervisors and all staff in support of the achievement of the company’s goals.
Typically requires related post-secondary education along with 2-5 years’ experience providing advisory / consultative services as a Human Resources professional.
Previous experience with salary administration and job evaluation with Hay methodology would be preferred.
CPHR designation, or working towards, would be an asset.
Superior computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) are required.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees.
Proficient written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to deal with confidential information and issues.
Outstanding organizational and follow-up skills.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet all deadlines.
Ability to work independently and in a team to accomplish goals.
