Whitby Harbour has existed in various forms since the early 1300’s and continues to be a busy and prosperous port with large fishing and leisure fleets whilst being the centre of the bustling town of Whitby.

Applications are invited for an apprentice administration post within the Whitby Harbour Office. The Harbour Office environment is a fast paced and varied environment with the opportunity to interact with a wide range of harbour operations and customers who rely on the team to ensure their queries are dealt with quickly and accurately.

The ideal candidate will be a person who is accurate, numerate, discrete, and who is willing to learn sound administrative skills including minute taking.

The candidate must be able to organise their own workload, use initiative and possess a 'Can Do' attitude. All applicants should have a good standard of education.

Good communication skills are essential as is the ability to multi-task. The post involves interaction with the public, stakeholders and other Officers of the Authority as well as representatives from partner agencies including HM Coastguard.

In addition, the applicant should be competent in using various IT applications, including Word & Excel. Applicants must be flexible adapting to the needs of the service.

A good level of spoken English and the ability to maintain accurate records is required for this position and the post holder must be capable of working closely with the public.

No two days are the same in this varied and exciting role which will challenge the successful candidate in the unique and specialised environment of a busy harbour whilst supporting them to complete their apprenticeship and achieve a relevant qualification.
