O’Hanlon Paving is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic to work year around in a full-time capacity based in Acheson, AB.

Responsibilities :

  • Perform maintenance and repair of heavy trucks, trailers, sweepers and hydraulic systems
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance, mainly on street sweepers during the sweeping season
  • Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturer's specifications
  • Maintain a clean and tidy personal work area and assist with general cleaning duties in a workshop environment
  • Maintain a daily record of all work tasks and materials
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement in work practices
  • Inspect, repair and adjust gasoline and diesel powered units
  • Keep tools, equipment and work area clean, organized and in good working condition.
  • Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
  • Other mechanic and shop duties as required.
  • Qualifications :

  • Completion of grade 12 (not including a general equivalent diploma)
  • Registered 2nd or 3rd year Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic in Alberta (or equivalent)
  • Possession of a CVI license will be an asset
  • Knowledge and some experience with diagnostic and repair of heavy equipment, commercial trucks and trailers of many makes and models;
  • Knowledge and experience in repair and maintenance of street sweepers and hydraulic systems will be highly desired;
  • Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license (with Air brake, Class 3 preferred) with or above with a clean drivers abstract;
  • Ability to work in a shift schedule (day time);
  • Ability to work continuously for prolonged periods of time under pressure;
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis;
  • High attention to detail, strong communication skills and ability to follow directions;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently with minimal supervision;
  • Willingness and ability to work extended hours and weekends if required; and
  • Valid safety certifications.
