VCA Canada Coast Meridian Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time, experienced Veterinarian to join our team of highly engaged and professional veterinary specialists.
The Medical Director, Hospital Manager and General Manager / Regional Operations Director collectively form the leadership team for the hospital.
Primarily, the Medical Director provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure the highest quality of veterinary care is practiced and client education provided.
The Medical Director ensures that the veterinary medical teams are highly productive, efficient and employ safe and effective hospital protocols.
In addition, the Medical Director, in collaboration with the leadership team is responsible to ensure operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures and personnel systems are in place to effectively grow the hospital and to ensure its financial strength and operating efficiency.
As a group, the leadership team is responsible for ensuring sound financial performance and team engagement. The Medical Director will be a member of the staff who will maintain a regular scheduled rotation and take on duties as specified below.
5+ years post graduate experience working as a lead Veterinarian in an active hospital.
Experience leading a team of veterinary professionals when addressing changes and / or improvements to medical protocols.
Collaborates with the leadership team to recruit and lead a high performance team of veterinarians using effective leadership, coaching and performance management practices and techniques.
Assists in the development and ongoing implementation of the veterinarian mentorship program.
Oversees surgical and medical cases for veterinary doctors ensuring positive outcomes and accurate estimates.
Promotes the safety of pets, clients and team members by ensuring the teams are utilizing safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols, and maintaining clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs.
Supports the leadership team in developing budgets and business plans related to the medical team and equipment. Helps determine equipment and medical facility requirements.
Provides support in determining appropriate doctor productivity benchmarks, and number of doctors and veterinary team members needed seasonally.
Monitor and report any veterinary performance and / or team development needs.
In conjunction with the leadership team, manage any veterinary / team performance or disciplinary issues.
Ensures the Controlled Drugs are reconciled and that the Controlled Drug log is signed off weekly to reflect that.
