Description & Details Short Description : To provide stimulating, quality care for the infants and toddlers of teenage parents in Jessie's Parent Child Centre.
Tasks and Responsibilities : 1. Care for infants and toddlers in the Parent Child Centre. This may include the following :
Feeding, changing diapers, and settling infant / toddler for sleep
Modeling age appropriate interactions with infants / toddlers; supporting PCC staff by participating in programming
Assisting the infant / toddler in their separation from parent
Ensuring the infant / toddler feels secure in an environment outside her / his home 2. Develop informal friendships with prenatal parents and young mothers as they spend time in the PCC.
This could involve causal conversation or sharing of information about child care and child development, all of which would be done in a non-
judgmental manner 3. Assist in the maintenance of the nursery space. This may include :
Tidying play area, change centre, swap shop and kitchen
Changing beds and linens
Disinfecting toys and furniture 4. Participating in outings and field trips when possible Additional Information On-going training and support is provided with an initial orientation to Jessie's Centre, and a two hour orientation and training session within the Parent Child Centre.
Required language English Minimum age Minimum hours per week 4 hours 11 am to 2 pm or 2 pm to 5 pm Mondays - Thursdays and 4 pm to 7 pm on Monday and Tuesday evenings Task requirements Participation Requirements :
Some professional and / or personal experience working with infants / toddlers and / or young children is a MUST
Understanding issues and barriers relating to teen pregnancy and parenting; non-judgmental, pro-choice approach to birth control, parenting, abortion, adoption
Positive and friendly demeanor
Available to commit 4 hours of service per week for 1 year
Physically able to lift up to 35 lbs
