Key Responsibilities :

  • Work with the HS&S team, production area supervisors, and managers to support and improve the plant’s safety culture.
  • Support the HS&S Manager to ensure the plant is in compliance with Ontario and federal health and safety regulations.
  • Drive key safety initiatives, including implementation and maintenance of new safety programs.
  • Assist the HS&S Manager and production supervisors with the implementation of the facility’s health and safety programs, policies, and expectations.
  • Be a health and safety resource for plant operations personnel with regard to projects, process changes, work practices, and regulatory interpretation.
  • Participate in field work pre-planning activities as needed.
  • Provide oversight of contractor safety and conduct audits to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Participate in departmental safety committee meetings.
  • Identify, evaluate, and correct hazardous conditions and practices in order to prevent safety incidents.
  • Conduct and / or participate in incident investigations and submit reports outlining the root causes and corrective actions.
  • Educate and train employees on health and safety policies and regulations.
  • Communicate health and safety concerns to affected employees through safety meetings and other means.
  • Conduct job safety analyses.
  • Participate in process housekeeping inspections as needed.
  • Evaluate the ergonomics associated with various tasks, recommend changes to improve conditions, and follow through to ensure the changes were completed and provided the desired results.
  • Ensure inspections are completed on safety equipment and coordinate repairs as necessary
  • Ideal Requirements :

  • Degree or college diploma in EH&S field or similar field of study
  • 2-5 years in the EH&S field in a large manufacturing facility
  • A passionate champion and advocate for Environmental Health and Safety programs and initiatives
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Sound knowledge of first aid (ideally certification) an asset.
  • Strong problem solving ability and computer skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
