The Senior Engineer, Project Development is responsible for Engineering for all IAMGOLD projects. As an integral part of the Project Management Office (PMO), the incumbent will participate in developing pre-feasibility, feasibility and detailed engineering for all disciplines and coordinate closely with the Technical Services and Metallurgist.
The incumbent will work closely with the Project Manager, acting as a Project Manager or Technical Lead on various projects, to maintain the technical competence and production requirements of the projects.
The Engineer is responsible for overseeing IAMGOLD's engineers in various disciplines and external engineering consultant firms, while working closely with Project Managers assigned to projects, to guide and ensure application of IAMGOLD standards to resident engineers and EPCM engineering services.
The incumbent will ensure that design, constructability, and execution plans are aligned with IAMGOLD standards, and ensure that reviews are carried out as well as Hazop / Design Safe exercises.
They will work closely with Project Services for scheduling, document control, contract management and project controls for all stages of the project.
The incumbent will also be responsible for the assembly of final overall project costing and estimation to be used for project controls in Oracle.
Lead the engineering, drafting, estimating and provide input into scheduling and reporting of all projects - PMO.
Contribute to the economic evaluations of projects, as well as review of calculations for tradeoffs and assessments.
Has overall responsibility for the technical selection, design and detail engineering in collaboration with consulting firms and project execution teams (engineering and construction).
Review and develop tender documents with consultants, to ensure appropriate technical specifications and scope related to the study or project execution.
Contribute to the project tender process, and ensure alignment to conform with design, selection and award criteria.
Respond to a variety of internal and / or external information requests and specifications.
Liaise with other engineering disciplines to develop all aspects of projects, and align / coordinate field engineers (internal and external) and construction manager.
Ensure QA / QC protocols are integrated and used during the projects.
Ensure that estimates conform to IMG standards for all internal projects and reviews.
Project execution and engineering governance, conforming to plan and design.
Direct Engineers for the development of estimates, designs according to IAMGOLD standards.
Develop standards for projects, design criteria and ensure the application in brownfield / greenfield projects.
Oversee and prepare technical terms regarding EPCM for tender packages, and works with contract manager for T&Cs.
Support project controls in the establishment of schedules, activities, project packages during all phases of the project (studies to execution), and provide likewise support to external consultants from engineering firms.
Implement standards, policies & practices relating to engineering and estimating, while ensuring integration with project controls.
Administer and ensure the maintenance of drawing files, manuals, technical lists and other documents on the construction SharePoint Website through Project Services.
Perform related technical support as required (site survey, permitting assistance) as well as support field studies.
Liaise with operations to support project initiatives, as well as support technical queries related to engineering.
Engineering documentation, reports, Request for Proposals (RFP’s) throughout the different phases of a project assignment.
Ensure the management, preparation (agenda) and documentation of all meetings related to the execution of the given project (including kick off meetings, progress meetings and shortlist meetings).
Develop all written reports related to engineering (, final feasibility report and all other related reports) to support Project Manager.
Manage any changes in the scope of the project with the client and with management, by using the project management practices in place (approval process).
Any changes will be subject to revised plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contracts for all projects.
Ensure that the RFP's for the purchasing and selection of equipment are followed.
Prepare RFP’s for all engineering services, geotechnical work or other support studies required on the project.
Ensure the documentation of all project engineering elements with the current archiving system of IAMGOLD (SharePoint).
Analyze quotations and provide recommendations as to the best proposals for major contracts. Participate in meetings with suppliers and ensure that competitive negotiation takes place for delivery according to project schedule, payment schedule, commercial clauses, price and optional equipment.
Supervision of designated consulting firms through the different phases of a project assignment.
Execute the steps of studies or detailed engineering as per the work processes in place at IAMGOLD.
Develop design criteria for all disciplines for a given project and assure that the standards meets IAMGOLD’s standards.
Coordinate with the Metallurgist to ensure that timely development of process flow diagrams, design criteria are developed and are in line with the project objectives.
Provide support and coordinate regularly with Project Manager to ensure execution of work during detailed engineering and provide support during construction and startup activities.
Supervise engineering work in both feasibility and detailed engineering, while ensuring the timely production of drawings submitted for construction.
Work closely with the client to ensure timely information is shared and any major changes are informed.
Liaise regularly with project assigned Engineers and Project Manager to ensure deliverables and timeline for project.
What You Need to Succeed
Engineering Bachelor Degree.
A minimum of 15 years of related work experience, in both office environments and in construction.
Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred.
Work experience in engineering projects and construction site essential.
Fluency in English and French is required, other languages Dutch, Spanish would be an asset.
Proficiency in computer applications and software, specifically MS Office, AutoCAD, MS Project, MS Excel, Estimating Software.
Strong interpersonal, technical writing skills, verbal communication skills.
Well organized, works well independently and in team settings, possesses good time-management skills, and is able to work effectively under pressure.
Strong understanding cost estimating and executing multiple tradeoffs efficiently.
Leadership skills for multi-disciplinary teams.
Ability to organize and coordinate projects.
