York University is embarking on a multi-year transformation of its student administrative system (Student System Renewal Program - SSRP), changing from its current enterprise resource planning (ERP) tool, to a vendor-driven solution supporting faculty and staff to achieve their academic and administrative needs and to support students to easily perform core administrative functions.
The SSRP is a large multi-year program (estimated at over $40,000,000) for the University and will transform how York interacts and works to facilitate student, faculty, and staff success through the student's educational journey creating a cohesive, integrated experience for all users.
The University has made a significant financial investment in this program as it will involve and impact the entire university community and will provide transformed business processes and system infrastructure to support the fundamental academic mission of the university.
As part of the Student Systems Renewal Program, The Quality Assurance / Quality Engineering (QA / QE) Director will be responsible for overseeing the Student System Renewal Program's (SSRP) QA / QE team comprised of external Systems Integrator staff and York internal staff for the end to end implementation of the QA / QE activities related to the projects within the program.
QA / QE role is a key member of the SSRP Leadership Team, working with the Director Business Transformation, Director Architecture and Systems Transformation, Director IAM Transformation, Director CRM Transformation, Director NextGen SIS, Transformation, Director Data and Reporting Transformation and the System's Integrators.
This individual will be accountable for leading the overall QA strategy and execution for the SSRP, with an integrated quality assurance / quality engineering team that is responsible for defining and managing a comprehensive cross-functional approach that results in measurable quality improvements through the delivery lifecycle.
The QA / QE Director will be ultimately accountable for the integrity of the methods, tools, platforms and efficacy of the SSRP software Quality and Testing services.
The QA / QE Director will drive consistency and efficiency of all Quality and Testing efforts for the portfolio of product development efforts getting involved from the concept / planning phase through release into production.
They will oversee the tool selection (working closely with the Director Operational Excellence), QA / Testing process development, test automation, quality metrics and tracking.
The QA / QE Director will oversee the SSRP various types of test plans, including functional, integration, regression, system, documentation, accessibility, security, and penetration testing including negative and performance testing.
The Director, Quality Assurance and Engineering will be a critical team member who harnesses the time and talents of key stakeholders and the SSRP team members towards achieving project and program goals and objectives.
This role reports to the Director, Architecture and Systems Transformation, Director, and works in close collaboration with the, Director, Business Transformation, Director Overall Change Management, Program Control Officer, Program and Project Governance Committees, other Transformation Directors, Solution Integrator Project Resources and University Stakeholder groups.
Quality Assurance certifications considered an asset : o CASQ : Certified Associate in Software Quality (Foundation Level Certification of Software Engineers and fresh engineering graduates), CSQA : Certified Software Quality Analyst (Practitioner level Certification for experienced Quality Analyst, SQA Team Members, SEPG Team Members and Team Leads), CMSQ : Certified Manager of Software Quality (Managerial Level Certification for SQA Leads, SEPG Managers, SEPG Lead, Project Managers and Process Managers).
University degree in technology, computer science, business or marketing. Project Management certification not required but considered an asset.
Significant experience (10+ years) in progressively responsible positions in software quality engineering and quality assurance.
Experience in developing and executing QA / QE strategy for integrated quality program. Experience working with a matrix team of York's VPs, Directors, Managers and System's Integrators.
Experience in building and transforming QA / QE teams and designing QA / QE, Testing and Test Automation related processes in a very complex environment that is constantly evolving.
applying best practices which produce enhanced operating results. Knowledge of QA / QE methodologies including strong opinions on optimal ways to develop and execute regression, integration, exploratory and end-to end testing.
Proven leader with ability to motivate a team to achieve outstanding results. Must have the ability to consistently and collaboratively resolve issues, mitigate roadblocks, and align teams.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Strong organizational, analytic and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
Experience with managing projects, budgets and resources.
Additional Notes :
Work will occur in an open-concept collaborative office setting.
The role will be balancing a number of requirements and dealing with complexity and issues in a fast-paced setting. Timelines will require focus and concentration.
The Director will need to meet with project participants at several locations on both Keele and Glendon campuses. Occasional travel may be required.

York implemented a revised CPM Compensation Framework in 2019. The Framework is a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Merit Incentive Award.
Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a performance lump sum Merit Incentive Award.
