The Faculty’s Divisional IT team, Information and Instructional Technology (IIT), supports over forty-five departments / units and is a crucial source of service and technology delivery for teaching, learning, research and administrative operations.
Our core functions include Infrastructure-Server / Networking and Data Centre Services, Client Services and Teaching Technology Support, Applications & Development and Product & Delivery Services.
We provide day to day support, project delivery and ongoing stewardship of technology including shared spaces and labs with focus on teamwork, collaboration, knowledge management and security.
Your opportunity :
Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Client Services, the Manager, Education Technology ensures sound operational oversight, team support and development, institutional technology delivery success, as well as reliable education technology planning, deployment, compliance and communication services for various key IIT and University wide teaching, learning, research and other academic and collaborative technology initiatives.
The Manager also provides consistent, effective and service oriented pedagogical and instructional technology expertise and leadership for the University’s Learning Management Engine, faculty consultation support, and various education technology initiatives including media, digital and online learning.
Your responsibilities will include :
Driving sound technology currency assessments and modernization paths; providing exemplary application / systems and overall academic and collaborative technology expertise;
researching and evaluating new technologies
Providing reliable team support and operational oversight; developing and guiding the team with a continual improvement mindset;
ensuring oversight and management of collaborative spaces and related initiatives
Developing education technology center of excellence support practices, intake models, communication models, governance models, compliance reviews and security protocols;
creating and driving end to end IT service and knowledge management sources; driving cohesion in technology with academic governance policies and procedures;
researching, supporting and guiding IIT’s accessibility compliance and best in class communication and end user adoption strategies
Developing business and technology requirements, cost cases, use cases and interface designs
Overseeing the intake process for new project and change requests; ensuring sound project coordination, compliance and project handover reviews;
managing incidents with a proactive, root cause and preventative mindset
Facilitating educational workshops and seminars, consultations, education technology reviews and seminars
Ensuring stewardship of technology access and operational controls
Forming and producing data analytics to measure service effectiveness in all areas
Essential Qualifications :
Bachelor's Degree in the field of Education, Educational Psychology or education in Information Technology / Instructional Technology, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
Master’s degree in Teaching and certification in Instructional Design, leadership certifications and project certifications are considered strong assets.
Minimum five years of recent, related, and diverse experience in education technology for adult and academic teaching and learning and other relevant fields such as, instructional design, enterprise wide system implementation for academic technologies, adult learning and curriculum support.
Post secondary and / or adult learning teaching experience preferred.
Minimum three years of direct supervision / elevated support experience in a large, multi-unit client facing technology operations environment, including the assignment of work to team members, managing escalations, forming operational support models and quality reviews;
exemplary leadership experience with a recent large, multi-unit implementation of an institutional Learning Management System including project management, technical and application expertise with expert administrative governance, operational and support model implementation, analytics, access governance and communication strategy.
Expert and proven product, support / operational knowledge of Canvas (Quercus), including integrations such as Turnitin, Crowdmark etc.
Expert ability to deliver training and support for active learning spaces (technology partnered with pedagogy); extensive experience working collaboratively with faculty, academic administrators and teaching professionals within a diverse community.
Proven expertise in end user communication strategy as well as team development and knowledge management; proven expertise in accessibility reviews and compliance (including AODA).
In depth knowledge and ability to plan, develop, design, analyze and implement educational information technologies and other instructional technologies in a post secondary environment;
demonstrated experience in conducting research in higher education (particularly relating to pedagogical strategies and higher education, institutional policy and procedures);
understanding of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
Thorough understanding of the relationship between the University’s web space, enhancing the student experience and the academic mission.
Demonstrated knowledge of product implementations, user interfaces and integrations used in teaching and learning and LME platform builds, for example, product assessments, specifications, analysis, usability systems design, web-enabled database design, application development, and application software.
Experience working collaboratively with faculty, academic administrators and teaching professionals within a diverse community.
Sound knowledge of a variety of technologies and software including Microsoft products, web and design utilities, lecture capture technologies, webcasting technologies, videoconferencing, computer-based assessment technologies, plagiarism detection, collaboration tools, and content management
Expert proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) required
Expert proficiency in online learning software packages

Assets (Nonessential) :

Experience with research solutions, applications and needs assessments in a post-secondary environment is a strong asset.
University-level teaching experience is an asset.
