System / Test Validation Engineer 2
Job Description :
This individual will be a member of the Semi-Custom Business Unit APU validation engineering team. You are responsible for graphics / APU silicon and system validation test plan development, execution and debug.
You are required to analyze each ASIC block and silicon feature and develop test plans (both silicon and system level) to validate feature functionality and endurance stability.
You will be responsible for post-silicon debug of issues you report or by teammates. For issue(s) that are reported, you will be responsible to triage and communicate with external teams and drive the issue(s) to closure.
Key Responsibilities :
Lead a specific APU block and / or project in the Semi-Custom Business Unit.
Develop silicon and system level validation test plans and strategies to validate ASIC design margins and features.
Post-silicon system level / silicon debug of failures and observations.
Execute test cases that you or other engineers define in the test plans and drive issues to closure.
Automation of manual tests in Perl / Python scripting language.
Work closely with supporting teams in design, diagnostics, BIOS, driver, system engineering, and platform team to ensure readiness of silicon feature for validation purpose.
Write reports on root cause of issues and provide future test plan improvements.
Skills and Experience :
Bachelor in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering
1+ years in silicon and / or platform system validation experience
Previous PEY or Co-op experience with AMD a valuable bonus.
Excellent PC x86 Architecture experience and excellent system level knowledge of the following : GPU / CPU Processor, Memory, PCI-Express, HDMI, Display Port, SATA, USB etc.
Computer enthusiasts and excellent knowledge of current leading PC technology.
Highly motivated, innovative individual with a keen interest in finding and resolving silicon / platform issues.
Strong Perl, C / C++, assembly language, object-oriented programming skills and command line scripting.
Operating System Requirements - Install, Setup, Configure and Troubleshoot : Microsoft Windows Operating Systems. Linux Operating Systems.
Linux and Windows network setup knowledge. Extensive Linux expertise and experience is a valuable asset.
Strong system level debug knowledge.
Good experience with lab equipment such as an oscilloscope.
Read and understand motherboard schematics, identify components on the board and apply rework / solder to them.
Excellent organizational, detail oriented and planning skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must excel in a dynamic team working environment.
