Stantec is seeking an individual to support and coordinate the implementation of Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) program within the British Columbia Region and will be based out of either the Kamloops, Kelowna, Burnaby, or Surrey offices.
Under the direction of the Health, Safety, Security and Environment Manager, the Regional Health, Safety, Security & Environment Advisor will work alongside another HSSE Advisor to coordinate the day-to-day operations of the HSSE program within the region.
Your Key Responsibilities
Support operations and office staff to be compliant with Stantec’s HSSE systems including the HSSE program manual and safe work practices, as well as local legislation.
Work with managers and staff to help guide them through the overall health and safety process and build relationships with local business centers to improve behaviors and overall health and safety culture.
Assist with project pre-job planning and hazard assessments.
Conduct field assessments, planned job observations and worksite inspections with leadership (which may require overnight travel).
Promote HSSE within the region with a goal of continuous improvement of HSSE culture.
Work with and provide HSSE advice and direction, as needed, to Office Safety and Environment Coordinators (OSECs) and operational / office staff.
Work with the HSSE Manager and existing HSSE Advisor to track and manage all incidents and leading indicators.
Track incident reports, ensuring follow-up is completed and documented as required.
Conduct investigations as required under the direction of the HSSE Manager.
Assist in the development of lessons learned in conjunction with incident investigations.
Support the subcontractor management program, coordinating, and conducting contractor prequalification assessments as required.
Assist with regional ISO 14001 (International Standards Organization), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety).
Assist with the implementation of the annual Certificate of Recognition (COR) / Safety Accord Forestry Enterprise (SAFE) audits through the BC Forest Safety Council.
Organize events to promote health and safety (may include North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) week, Lunch and Learns, etc.).
Your Capabilities and Credentials
CRSP designation (candidates in the process of obtaining a CRSP designation will be considered).
Knowledge of British Columbia Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
Knowledge of Alberta legislation is preferred.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities, coupled with an ability to work in a team atmosphere.
Strong leadership skills and the capability to assess priorities and work independently.
Computer proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of software.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
Education and Experience
A degree or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety in a related field.
Minimum of five years of relevant field work experience in an HSSE role.
Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather, as well as working in remote areas with difficult terrain.
Sometime will be spent in a typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 20 lbs.
