Position Overview

This co-op is 8 months and will start in September 2020.

The assignment will provide opportunities for engagement with Professional Engineers, managers and others in various departments within the organization, and provide an opportunity to understand some of the workings within the operating and engineering groups at FortisBC.


In this role you will :

  • Be involved in the design and drafting of the different standards for overhead and underground lines
  • Perform multiple site visits to better understand the Transmission and Distribution system when making changes to the construction standards
  • Provide technical support and work with the Operations team
  • Research technical information on new utility products and practices
  • Network with other utilities
  • Requirements

  • You’re enrolled in the third or fourth year of an electrical engineering program
  • You have a valid driver’s license
  • You have a passion for the energy industry and the utility world
  • You have a knack for public speaking
  • You get your points and messages across with ease and respect so you canwork harmoniously with a variety of people
  • You know the ins and outs of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • You know how to VBA and / or other scripting language
  • You have experience using AutoCAD and PLS Cadd.
