Position Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for a Design Director, MEP interested in joining our growing industry leading team. Join us and you’ll manage the utilization, growth, and development of professionals in the MEP Department, which is comprised of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing engineers and designers.

The MEP team designs energy efficient, compliant, maintainable, and sustainable systems and solutions for technically complex manufacturing facilities, laboratories, central utility plants, offices, warehousing and packaging facilities, and data centers, across a wide range of industries.

In this role you will ensure consistent, high quality deliverables via cold reviews and support business development with technical support, proposal generation, and work hour estimates.

You will coordinate with the project managers and discipline directors to determine scope, complexity, and planning and scheduling requirements of projects and will assign appropriate staff to provide cost-effective engineering and technical support.

You will define an appropriate cost-effective workflow process and level of design detail to achieve project goals.

  • You will ensure the quality, accuracy, consistency and completeness of overall work as to mechanical engineering principles, compliance with established IPS standards, procedures, codes and ordinances;
  • adherence to project schedules. You will use your acquired technical expertise to provide adequate mentoring, training, technical and administrative guidance / instruction to your mechanical staff.

    You will develop the MEP strategic business plan in concert with overall company planning efforts involving technical / regulatory activities required to achieve long range and annual goals and objectives, and will assist in ongoing strategic planning for the entire company.

    You will take ownership of the hiring, performance appraisal, salary position recommendations and employee development plans for your group.

    Last, but not least you’ll establish and maintain excellent working relationships with clients and members of the IPS design team and be an active participant in the business development activities.

    You will be working mainly from home (unless you prefer to work in the office) with the expectation to be able to come to the Vaughan or Montreal office 2 times / week, and available to travel for client meetings.

    Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor or higher degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • P.Eng. designation in Ontario or another province; ing. designation in QC would be an asset
  • 15+ years of design engineering experience with at least 5 years’ experience in the design of BioPharm processes and facilities for the cGMP production of biological and pharmaceutical drugs
  • Progressive ability, capacity, and aptitude in administration to plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate technical work and to obtain cooperation from others
  • Possess sufficient technical proficiency in the various facets of mechanical design to understand project requirements and apply the appropriate resources and execution approach for a successful project
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, displaying creativity and innovation by continually working to improve solutions, tools, methods and service delivery system
  • Previous experience managing / mentoring a team strongly preferred
  • Fully bilingual (English / French) candidates would be preferred, but not a must
