Position Type / Hours : This is a casual position with no guaranteed hours of work within the Transit Services Branch of the Public Works Department.
This position is located in the community of Fort McMurray, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s urban centre.Position Description : Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Conventional Operations, the Fleet and Transit Inspector is a mobile position that oversees the daily delivery of transit services by providing supervision and support to Transit Bus Operators in the field, customer service to the general public and responds to all Transit and Fleet collisions and emergent situations.
Primary responsibilities of this position include : Employee Development : Performs mobile supervisory tasks during shift for assigned team members.
Ensures team is managed fairly and consistently and that work processes are followed and coordinated to ensure optimal service levels and safety.
Mentors, coaches, and provides support to staff. Informs and escalates situations to Supervisor, Conventional Operations if necessary.
Service Delivery : Ensures Transit service is monitored and operated efficiently, safely and on schedule. Manages daily service changes (on road).
Responds to transportation requests, issues and concerns. Conducts investigations by collecting data and preparing reports concerning operator and service related complaints and compliments.
Responds to requests for assistance on service matters for Transit or Fleet collisions, passenger situations, operator assistance, equipment breakdown, traffic situations, special events, and other service related issues.
Carries out necessary procedures so that collisions are accurately reported and documented and takes corrective action as deemed necessary.
Performs routine foot patrols at terminals and other facilities. Completes security checks of facilities and equipment, conduct checks on general fare collection and completes daily reports on activities.
Departmental Coordination : Ensures compliance with rules, regulations, collective agreement, policies and procedures. Ensures timely and accurate completion of reports and ensures compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal requirements.
Prepares daily reports and accurately records all relevant service related impacts including passenger counts, public information, service frequencies, changing travel patterns and demands, routing recommendations, service levels, placement of shelters, stops and signs for service planning and improvements.
Delivers memos and notices to terminal lobbies. Performs other duties as assigned.High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
A minimum of one (1) year experience as a supervisor.A Valid Class two (2) driver’s licence with a safe driving record is required.
Air Brakes (Q endorsement) is required.Collision Investigation Level II is an asset.Valid First Aid / CPR Certificate is an asset.
Experience as a supervisor in a unionized environment considered an asset.Completion of a defensive driving course is an asset.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other municipal departments.Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check for review and acceptance.
