The Opportunity

The mission of our creative team is to become the best cannabis agency in the world, creating a new benchmark for the performance and output of an internal creative team.

Integral to this mission is creating an internal production team to deliver fast, cost effective print, digital and video across our global brand portfolio.

As production designer, working the packaging and labeling team, you will be responsible for but not limited to label design and creation, package design, post production on label photography and uploading of files to vendors, meeting brand standards while following strict Health Canada regulations.

The role will champion unwavering attention to the craft of execution, while being part of a team and culture that has agility at the core of everything it does.

Responsibilities

  • Design, or execute on existing designs, print labels for all product packaging following strict Health Canada guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance of the brand identities, appropriately and consistently using logos, font, and colour palettes creatively across a range of media (print, website)
  • Remain abreast of Health Canada’s labeling regulations
  • Design and prepare final press-ready files based on supplied specifications for several types of printing
  • Work with and respect given dielines and templates as well as dieline and template creation
  • Make various formats of supplied artwork production-ready and resolve any artwork issues that arise during production
  • Provide image retouching, clipping paths and additional image manipulation including resizing images to meet provincial standards for upload
  • Upload final images to GS1 and provincial sites
  • Create 3D package renders using Esko Studio or similar 3D packaging software
  • Maintain database of final imagery with correct labeling properties per province
  • Assist with cataloging and reference art for future projects
  • Follow a development timeline to ensure tasks are being completed on time
  • Take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision
  • Is a true team player with a strong work ethic and a can-do attitude
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and ability to work independently as well as on a team
  • Has solid communication skills and is capable of working well with a wide range of people across multiple disciplines
  • Excellent organizational, time management, attention to detail, problem solving, and is solutions oriented
  • Flexible and able to adapt to peak volume, rushed orders, changing timelines and priorities while maintaining a keen eye for detail and quality
  • Ability to recognize and innovate better ways to accomplish production and creative objectives

  • Experience

  • Have a post-secondary diploma in graphic design and production or a direct related field
  • Have 5+ years working experience in visual identity and communications, graphic design, editorial design, advertising, digital design and development, typography, and production, including multimedia, digital design and production
  • Have superior skills in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat and) as well as in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in Esko Studio or similar 3D packaging software
  • Have advanced experience in production industry techniques including photo manipulation, CMYK / PMS colour correction, file preparation, colour profiles, error corrections and font usage;
  • and digital, large format and offset, and printing processes

  • Proven ability to be able to conceptualize, multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to strict guidelines

    This is a full time position based out of Kanata. Portfolio is required.
