Position Overview :
The Product Developer is the owner of the technical side of new and existing styles in partnerships with Design, Product Engineering, Material Development, Merchandising and Operations.
They are accountable for providing the business with product Bill of Materials (BOMs) and Manuals.
The Product Developer is responsible for development of new styles with emphasis on design vision, cost, and quality from concept through hand over to the Supply Chain Team.
Additional responsibilities are for ongoing maintenance of existing styles. Adherence to the global calendar is crucial for success of the Product Developer’s role.
This role requires high level of communication with the Design team as well as cross-departmental collaboration coupled with strong project management and timeline skills.
Key Responsibilities :
Ensure correct execution of design concept, using best practice expertise
Constantly deliver completed tasks at each stage of the development process, taking initiative when required
Maintain consistency among new and carryover styles
Responsible for developing collections that are consistent with the brand (develop new styles and update existing styles)
Responsible for maintaining consistency of new styles with historical styles within each category
Works closely with the Design, Merchandising, Pattern Making, Manufacturing, and Vendors to develop styles on time with accuracy
In cooperation with Design, Pattern Making, and Vendors - supports raw material and construction requirements for each collection.
This includes; trims, yarns, threads, baffles and interlinings
Responsible for creating and maintaining a completed Manual as well as all associated files
In support of Design and in cooperation with Material Development & Vendors, develop new raw materials, and assess / comment on vendor provided trims and materials
Create, distribute and maintain style specification and comment packages for external and internal vendors
Organizes information needed to assist in the costing process and works with the Brand Finance Analyst
Support Quality Assurance with setting standards and approval review as well as the claim and rejection process
Communicate when needed with contract Designers and / or Consultants and / or Vendors
May need to attend seasonal sales meetings in support of Design
Any and all duties as maybe assigned by the Manager
Experience, Education and Designations :
Must have 5 years of working experience within a fabric / trims Product Development position
Product Development experience in outerwear is preferred
A Degree in Design is an asset
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes :
Good verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of PLM is an asset
Computer Skill; proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator is required
Demonstrate ability to take initiative to achieve departmental and corporate objectives
Knowledge of line merchandising and product construction required
Strong time management and multitasking skills
Ability to work as a team and maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion
