About the role
The Risk Specialist will be an integral role that will provide Risk and Compliance support and guidance for Direct Distribution Operations to ensure our organization maintains strong risk and governance practices in accordance with our risk appetite and regulatory and compliance requirements.
This individual will identify and assess the adequacy of appropriate processes and controls across Direct Distribution and assist with the development and execution of a control validation framework and methodology.
They will support management of risks and work closely with the business operation teams to ensure new and changing processes are appropriately developed and controlled, as well as identify solutions where there are gaps in processes or breakdown of controls and oversight.
They will also support and investigate breaches including licensing and others, support any compliance attestations including licensing renewals and Ethidex and ensure risk dashboards are maintained.
They will also support other processes such as BCRO to ensure risks are identified and reported within appropriate timeframes.
What you’ll do here :
Assist in the development and execution of a control validation framework, methodology and activities across Direct Distribution including review and testing of operation controls and processes
Investigate Operational breaches and incidents to ensure we are mitigating risks and exposures and supporting the business with remediation plans
Participate in various committees and projects where risk and compliance expert is needed
Support any Operational attestations including Ethidex for adherence to compliance or regulatory requirements
Provide support to the business for licensing renewals including direction on questionnaires and other compliance related matters for licensing
Ensure risk reporting is up to date and other incident reporting is tracked and managed accordingly based on required reporting cadence including BCRO and Horizon Scanning
Work with key stakeholders to problem solve through root cause analysis and provide input on setting up appropriate processes & controls within key projects and business processes
Facilitate and drive remediation action plans to address issues identified through ongoing control validation and assurance and monitor progress to closure, with a strong focus on timely and sustainable remediation
Analyze and present results and recommendations on processes and controls, identified through control validation and reviews to ensure internal controls are designed appropriately, efficiently, and effectively
Maintaining strong relationships and stakeholder management is key as you partner with stakeholders across Direct Distribution to bring key insights on efficient process and control design
Support risk management procedures and processes including risk identification, assessment and documentation that reflects risk appetite and satisfies regulatory requirements
Assist with the development and maintenance of the risk profile across Direct Distribution
Prepare and review reports and materials for management and various committees and governance forums
As required, support the team in day-to-day governance and compliance activities, initiatives and projects including licensing
What you bring to the table :
Over 5 years of progressive experience in audit, risk management, internal control testing or quality assurance experience
Experience in the P+C insurance industry with knowledge of risk and control frameworks
Strong data analytics skills
Proactive and decisive thinking and excellent ability to problem solve and identify solutions through negotiation and influencing techniques
Excellent facilitation skills with the ability to manage priorities in an evolving environment to meet timelines.
Ability to plan and set priorities and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong capabilities in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Completion of post-secondary an asset
