Job Description

The Union for Gender Empowerment (UGE) is a feminist and trans positive Service of the

SSMU that strives to provide services to marginalized peoples in a safe(r) space. This

includes an intersectional anti-oppressive mandate that centers the following values :


  • 1. Organize and run one staffer training each semester;
  • 2. Conceptualize workshops based on the current needs of the population;
  • 3. Facilitate workshops and presentations for external and internal organizations;
  • 4. Collaborate with Outreach Coordinator in communicating with organizations and

  • scheduling workshops for external and internal organizations;
  • 5. Provide support to staffing volunteers who seek to develop their skills by including

  • them into the facilitations of workshops at the coordinator’s discretion;
  • 6. Update the UGE Manual for the use of future staffers and collective members;
  • 7. Attend regular collective meetings.


  • 1. English essential, French an asset;
  • 2. Public speaking skills;
  • 3. Attended and / or facilitated anti-oppression-focused workshops;
  • 4. Ability to conduct independent research;
  • 5. Degree or current major in related field (gender studies, post-colonial studies,

  • education, etc.);
  • 6. Interest in seeking out partner organizations to collaborate with;
  • 7. Highly organized and reliable;
  • 8. Ability to work independently and take initiative;
  • 9. Experience with workshop planning, both collaborative and unilateral;
  • 10. Experience with consensus-based decision making an asset;
  • 11. Integrity, good planning skills, interpersonal skills, high degree of organizational skills;
  • 12. Priority will be given to applicants who are BIPOC, living with disabilities or from

  • Paid position : $14.74 per hour
  • Term : 1 December, 2021 - 31 May, 2022
  • Contract : 150 hours
