The Unit Clerk II reports to the Patient Care Manager and is responsible for clerical support, including assistance with admissions / discharges / transfers, reception, booking diagnostic testing, assist with payroll, staffing and scheduling, maintaining supplies and other duties as assigned.

Hours of work are days, evenings and weekends as scheduled. The Unit Clerk must also protect and promote the patient s right to privacy, confidentiality and dignity.

Requirements :

  • Secondary School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 1-year experience in general office or health care environment
  • Strong computer skills, including demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications or willingness to learn
  • Efficient typing skills, with a minimum of 35 wpm and 90% accuracy (testing will be administered)
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience in filing (testing will be administered)
  • Transcription of Doctor s Orders
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to function both independently and as a member of the multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, documentation skills (both written and verbal)
  • Effective telephone skills, with the clear and concise diction
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with colleagues, patients, volunteers and members of the community
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational, prioritization and time-management skills, with demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, demanding environments
  • Demonstrates values consistent with Scarborough Health Network (SHN) Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
  • Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
  • Demonstrated pattern of excellent work performance and attendance record
  • Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing education and learning
  • Asset :

  • Previous clerical experience
  • Ability to speak another language
  • Knowledge of Meditech Payroll and Order Entry
