Working in a dynamic environment, with experienced labour relations practitioners you will deal with a variety of issues administering 6 Collective Agreements and interacting with 5 different Unions.

The Branch values open communication, collaboration, teamwork and service excellence. As a Labour Relations Consultant, you will :

  • Provide managers with interpretations of employment contracts, collective agreements, policies and procedures and federal and provincial legislation
  • Provide advice, assistance and make recommendations when dealing with conflict resolution, discipline and grievances
  • Facilitate the Dispute Resolution process to resolve workplace disputes and interpersonal conflicts within the Working Relationship Agreement framework
  • Provide input and support to the collective bargaining process Investigate employee issues and provide recommendations on appropriate action
  • Liaise with Disability Management Consultants, supervisors, and Employee and Family Assistance Services in dealing with employee accommodations and / or absences under the City's Attendance Management, Duty to Accommodate Programs and Drug and Alcohol Directives
  • Lead or participate in special projects
  • Other related duties as required
  • Qualifications

  • A University degree in Business Administration with a major in Human Resource Management or a related degree with a minimum of 5 years of diversified and progressive HR professional experience, including 3 years of directly related labour relations experience
  • Applicants who meet the education requirements for this position but do not meet the experience requirements, may be considered at the Developmental Level
  • Experience in interpreting and administering collective agreements
  • Experience in representing the Employer in discipline meetings and grievance proceedings
  • Demonstrated ability of establishing strong collaborative working relationships with clients, co-workers and unions
  • Demonstrated ability of applying an interest based problem solving approach to dispute resolution, preferably in a multi-
  • site unionized environment

  • Demonstrated ability of dealing effectively with conflict
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills are essential
  • Computer proficiency and experience in Microsoft Office applications and Human Resources Information Systems such as PeopleSoft are essential
